Police clashes with a group of protesters at Kocaeli University in Izmit, Monday, using water cannon and riot shields to disperse the crowd. The students were protesting the sacking of 10 academics from the university as part of a government decree against university professors with alleged ties to outlawed groups. The protesters aimed to hold a press conference to speak out against the sackings but were reportedly prevented from doing so by police, who opened fire with water cannon. Ten students were detained following the clashes, according to reports.
