Activist Josh Brown speaks about the impact of Michael Brown’s death

Josh Williams’ mother drove Michael Brown’s school bus. In 2014, Williams and Brown were both 18 and knew each other, though not well. Williams said he was shaken by his death.
Williams, who is black, took to the streets of Ferguson the night after the shooting and stayed there for the months of protests that followed. He lived in a tent most of the time along West Florissant Avenue.
In December 2014, Antonio Martin was killed in a confrontation with police at a gas station in Berkeley, near Ferguson. In what he called a fit of anger during a protest, Williams grabbed a few things from the store and set fire to a trash can.
The crime was captured by a TV news crew, and Williams was arrested the next day. He was convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison. His only prior arrests were for disturbances related to protests.
Now 23, Williams is housed in a prison southwest of St. Louis. He said he spends much of his time counseling other prisoners, helping them prepare for life once they get out.

The Craziest Campaign Ads of the 2018 Midterms

The 2018 midterm elections have brought a treasure trove of campaign ads. Candidates have never been more creative — or idiotic.

Ron DeSantis, Republican candidate for governor, read one of President Trump’s books to an infant, stating his favorite part was when Trump said, “You’re fired.”

A democratic candidate for the House, Dan Helmer, brought us to the “Helmer Zone.” A Top Gun remake complete with overly dramatic motorcycle scenes and a very poorly sung rendition of You’ve Got That Lovin’ Feeling.

Of course, campaign ads would be nothing without their swipes at opponents and government leadership. Taking the biggest hit this year? Mitch McConnell.

Don Blankenship, Republican candidate for Senate, gave the Majority Leader a couple of pet names: Swamp Captain Mitch and Cocaine Mitch.

Then there was the “deportation bus” suggested by Republican candidate for governor Michael Williams. Williams said he was “gonna fill this bus with illegals to send them back to where they came from.”

And lastly, Levi Tillemann, Democratic candidate for the House, who had something that looked like mace sprayed into his eyes and dunked his head into a bucket of some blue foaming chemical that was “incredible painful.”

These ads are truly diamonds in the rough.

A meteorologist explains how climate change makes flying more expensive

Climate change could make flying more expensive in the future due to increased turbulence, according to Paul Williams, a Professor of Atmospheric Science in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading.

Invisible turbulence, or clear-air turbulence, is different to turbulence caused by flying through clouds or a rainstorm because it can happen in conditions where visibility is clear. Invisible turbulence is generated by wind shear, or the colliding of air masses, which gets stronger at higher altitudes.

Scientists predict that wind shear is increasing, and in turn creating more turbulence, as a result of the jet stream speeding up due to climate change, Williams said.

Turbulence causes injuries to passengers, flight attendants, and crew, which could ultimately cost airlines billions of dollars globally due to the greater risk of injuries, he added.
