Group Therapy Behind Bars (Excerpt from ‘New Hampshire’s Prison Detox’)

Watch the Full Length – http://bit.ly/1U1YVp3

The United States is dealing with a major public health crisis. Over the last decade, heroin-related overdose deaths have nearly quadrupled.

The epicenter of this epidemic is New Hampshire, with the highest rate of young adults abusing opioids in the country. The state is also second to last in the nation on spending for substance abuse programs. Unless New Hampshire residents are able to pay thousands of dollars up front for programs, they’re on months-long waiting lists to get in, leaving them vulnerable to fatal overdoses.

In this excerpt, VICE News joins a group therapy session at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility, where inmates talk about their looming release dates and their biggest challenges in maintaining sobriety.
