Thousands of children in India have missed out on the necessary immunization, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) complained. In the Indian capital of New Delhi, the UN-backed campaign to vaccinate students as schools was met with opposition by parents, who were scared of potential adverse effects of inoculation.

Former ‘cutters’ re-enact FGM ceremony to highlight dangers

February 6th marks the sixth International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, or female genital mutilation. FGM has been outlawed in Uganda since 2010, but some remote communities in Karamoja, in the northwest of the country, still practice it in secret. The UN Population Fund and UNICEF are working with local NGO’s and community leaders to try to stamp out FGM in Uganda altogether.

UNICEF uses drones to help tackle cholera in Malawi

UNICEF in Malawi has embarked on a drone mapping exercise to help communities tackle cholera, which broke out in the country during the rainy season two months ago. The NGO is using drones to map densely populated areas and collect data that can be used to identify potential transmission hotspots and provide people with correct information.
