Friction – Someone (Ft. McLean)

Available to pre-order from iTunes: http://bit.ly/SomeoneITunes

After his huge hit of last year ‘Stand Up’, it’s finally time for Shogun Audio label boss and D&B scene-leading DJ, Friction, to step back into the studio for his first solo release of 2011. As you’d expect from the infamous quartz-lock kid this one straddles the vibe divide switching from the uplifting to the downright dirty, much like his astounding DJ sets that have destroyed clubs across the globe over recent years.

‘Someone’ sees Friction looking to the warmer months with what has summer anthem written all over it. Featuring the soaring vocal talents of the UK soul star Mclean jumping onto a fresh and clean bed of twinkling pads with a pristine break underneath, ‘Someone’ is without doubt the sunshine after the rain. Watch the smiles fly as the bass kicks and carries the dance floor away on a blissed-out journey that’ll have hands in the air the world over.

Digital only package will include ‘Someone’ (Rockwell Remix) and ‘Someone’ (The Prototypes Remix).

London Elektricity – The Plan That Cannot Fail

Hospital Shop – https://www.hospitalrecords.com/shop/release/london-elektricity/nhs185-elektricity-will-keep-me-warm
iTunes – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/yikes%21-special-edition/id427270564?app=itunes
http://www.londonelektricity.com/

The founding father of the Hospital imprint and mouthpiece of the multi-award winning, chart topping Hospital podcast, London Elektricity is a name that should need no introduction. Since starting the label in 1996, Tony Colman has carved out a fearsome reputation as one of the pre-eminent names in D&B and remains at the forefront of the scene to this day.

This incredible 12″ release marks the first London Elektricity release for over two years and is the first single to be taken from his highly anticipated forthcoming album ‘Yikes!’ which is due out at the end of April. His last release ‘All Hell Is Breaking Loose’ stormed on to the Radio One playlist, proving his underground and overground credentials once again. A lot has changed since 2008’s ‘Syncopated City: ‘this is my first release for 3 years, and features the vocals of Elsa Esmeralda who graced ‘Just One Second’ from my last album Syncopated City. Elsa features on 7 tracks on my new album ‘Yikes’, and I can safely say this is easily my best work to date. Yikes has been 2 years in the making, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it! ‘

Sparse and minimal, ‘Elektricity Will Keep Me Warm’ is UK bass music at its most soulful and imaginative. A stripped down ‘think’ break, 808 subs and laconic piano chords drive the main tune along with an absolutely outstanding vocal performance from Elsa Esmarelda, whose previous London Elektricity collaboration “Just One Second” has become a massive Hospital anthem.

“The Plan That Cannot Fail” on the flip side is an awesome slice of instrumental d+b magic. Get ready for hands and lighters in the air as the tune builds and evolves into a heart-rending powerhouse, built around a rich piano progression and tripping breaks. Absolutely sublime.

London Elektricity continues to be one of the finest purveyors of forward thinking, ground-breaking music and this single is a testament to his ongoing success. As the mounting anticipation surrounding the release of his album builds, all eyes are firmly fixed on the Colminator as we enter spring 2011.

Danny Byrd – Rave Digger Minimix

Download this minimix – http://www.byrdfeed.co.uk/2010/10/minimixtweet/

Danny Byrd is back once again! Having smashed up dancefloors and radio playlists with his huge rave rework of Liquid’s “Sweet Harmony” earlier this year he returns with one of the biggest and most hotly anticipated dance albums of the year. “Rave Digger” is a non-stop helter-skelter ride of hands- in-the-air pianos, breakneck breakbeats and searing mentasm synths. Featuring the vocal dexterity of I-Kay, on a classic 90s hook, “Ill Behaviour” gets you right from the word go; and is a fitting statement of intent for a project which looks set to put a rocket up the backside of UK dance music.

“Judgement Day” sees I-Kay in a more forceful mood – picking up where last years playlist contender Red Mist left off, before D+B’s newest superstar Netsky joins Danny on “Tonight”, for some spine-tingling synth-fuelled mayhem. Hot Fuzz comes like an entire weekend rolled into one tune before things ease down to 140bpm for “We Can Have It All”; a timeless slice of euphoric breakbeat soul. There are more laid back moments, from the beautiful “Failsafe” featuring London Elektricity, to Zarif’s soul tinged vocals on “Wait for Me” and the classic jungle homage “Amen Alley”, all interspersed with more rave madness than you can shake a glowstick at.

Debuted exclusively by Radio One’s Annie Mac and jumped on early by Mistajam and Zane Lowe, this is drum + bass with maximum crossover appeal. From diehard D+B fans who have been there since the good old days, to a whole new generation of ravers lining the dancefloors at Hospitality and beyond, this is music without boundaries.
