Archaeologists announced the discovery of a 4,400-year-old tomb belonging to a supervisor of the royal palace of King Nefer Ir-Ka-Re, at the archaeological site of Sacred Animal Necropolis in Saqqara on Saturday.
The owner of the tomb was a royal purification priest, and the supervisor of the royal palace, according to Egypt’s General Secretary of Supreme Council of Antiquities Dr. Mostafa Waziri.
The tomb contains 45 carved statues, which are presumed to be of the owner and his family, with Egypt’s Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled El-Enany hailing the finding as ‘one of the most beautiful discoveries recently.’
