A pair of baby elephants feeding from the same mother have been spotted in a Sri Lankan national park, with officials speculating the two could be a rare set of twins. The young tuskers — who rangers estimate are three to four weeks old — were spotted in the Minneriya sanctuary about 200 kilometres (125 miles) north-east of Colombo, grazing with a herd of about a dozen elephants.

Eiffel Tower goes dark honouring Sri Lanka attacks victims

The Eiffel Tower switched off its lights at midnight in Paris, commemorating people killed in attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka.

People, as well as those of Sri Lankan origin, attended a night vigil in the Trocadero area of the city, lighting candles for the victims, with Buddhi Athauda, an ambassador of Sri Lanka in France also present at the event.

At least 290 people were killed in a series of blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, updated casualty figures confirm. The government plans to hold a security council meeting to assess the threat level in the country.

Sri Lanka blasts: Police detains 7 suspects in connection with bombings

Sri Lankan authorities have taken seven suspects into custody, who they believe may be connected with a series of bombings on Easter Sunday. Three police officers were reportedly killed in the raid.

The law enforcement deaths happened when they stormed a safehouse in Dematagoda, an area outside Colombo where the eighth explosion happened, a defense official said.

A total of seven people were taken into custody in connection with the bombings.

Fists fly at Sri Lankan parliament session in massive brawl over PM

Sri Lankan parliament descended into chaos in Colombo on Thursday, as dozens of MPs exchanged blows over the disputed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

One lawmaker was reportedly hospitalized and another accused of brandishing a KNIFE during the brawl. According to reports, more than 50 lawmakers were involved in the fight.

On Wednesday, the country’s lawmakers passed a no-confidence
vote against newly appointed Prime Minister Rajapaksa, removing the official and his cabinet from their posts. However, the supporters of Rajapaksa refused to recognise the legitimacy of the vote.
