DARPA’s Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program is attempting to take the challenge of human-machine collaboration to the next level with the goal of using AI to augment human performance in a real world domain that is relevant to our warfighters, using aerial combat as the crucible.
To help get the AI up to speed for that collaboration, DARPA is hosting the AlphaDogfight Trials with the Air Force Research Lab and AFWERX.
The AlphaDogfight Trials will pit researchers across the spectrum, from small businesses and university teams to the industrial tech base, against each other in developing AI algorithms able to win simulated aerial dogfights.
Participants in the AlphaDogfight Trials will demonstrate the power of their algorithms and then leverage those demonstrations in full proposals to an anticipated ACE solicitation focused specifically on dogfight algorithm development to be released later this year.
