On the morning of 14 May, Mélissa Véron found her lifeless three-year-old mare in the pasture of stables in Berny-en-Santerre (Somme). In scenes stranger than fiction, a horrifying series of violent horse deaths have been recorded across several departments in recent months. At the end of June, a note from the Central Territorial Intelligence Service listed at least eleven similar events in France between December 2018 and the summer of 2020.

London: 72,396 figurines in homage to WW1 Commonwealth soldiers

72,396 shrouded figures, which form the installation “Shrouds of the Somme” by British artist Rob Heard, are laid out at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London to represent Commonwealth servicemen who died at the Somme, and who have no known grave.
