From its humble beginnings, alongside sister-label Ram Records, Program has prided itself in giving a platform to some of the drum & bass scene’s most exciting newcomers. However, alongside this ethos they’ve also helped to develop new aliases for the titans of its harder realms, with Slang Banger leading the charge for Program’s muddier sounds. And forthcoming from the production trio, the same artists who brought you Resonant Evil, Pixel Fist, Inasin and Afghan Headspin, is a four track EP which continues to show their appetite for destruction. Program once again rolls with the punches for their next output.

From Redshift to Rock It, Slang Banger hone in on a signature which saw them rise to prominence in the earlier stages of their respective careers. Title-track Redshift begins with rattling drum loops and nastily slick bass stabs which sit beneath the track’s composition. Rolling forward on intimidating breaks, you’re presented with colossal drops between every clattering breakdown. Gravity knocks through just as aggressively; it’s an old-school flavoured riddim which pushes ahead on a chomping bassline and explodes over a blaring voice-sample. Then you’re introduced to Orbit, drivingly relentless with its snapping kick drums and percussive overture, becoming more urgent with each sound layer. Rock It brings the EP to a close, wrapping up four tracks of stereo annihilation. Alongside sharp-edged wooden percussive elements and pulses of unforgiving bass, Slang Banger leaves a lasting impression with their latest EP.

And this is why, for another release, it’s time to get with the Program. From beginning to end, the trio land hit after hit. Demonstrating why they still stand the test of time, years one from their first release together.

Strictly for the heads, this next EP from Slang Banger presents why this supergroup of veterans are becoming notorious within the dimly lit underground world. Bringing together three heavyweights in old-school production, they have a huge portfolio of experience between them; from Pixelfist and Resonant Evil to Inasin and Afghan Headspin, these guys have already dominated the scene over the past fifteen years. And together, they wreak havoc on Ram’s sister label Program with brand new release ‘Locations’.

Channeling the same vibe which has been prevalent throughout their first output on Program, ‘Locations’ merges modern-day production standards with the dark undertones of the late 90s and early 2000s. broody, unrelenting and angrily set up, first track ‘Hoxton’ exemplifies this sound. With smashing breaks and metallic drum beats, it pushes through spikes of snare to climb you up even further into each climatic drop. Slang Banger are here to remind you of an era that saw some of the genre’s greatest etch out its history. And they’re here to continue it.

‘Rhythm Station’ is lumbering yet filled with power between each layer of sound. If you didn’t think the cascading breaks which filter throughout its first segment weren’t devastating enough, midway you’re dropped into all-out war. Slang Banger’s weaponry shoots at you from all angles and you’re unable to remove yourself from a cataclysm of jaunty beats and cutting stabs. A crunchy roller that offers no mercy, Slang Banger bring a whole new meaning to a dancefloor ignition.

Filing out next is ‘Sterns’. One that’s been lining the sets in some of Europe’s most notorious clubs, creepily distorted sample brings you into its realm. Between smashing drums and moodily tight composition, fluctuating note patterns give you a slight reprieve before you’re thrown back into the deep end. It’s driving yet still dynamic… A sure-fire anthem for darker seasons.
Rounding up all four cuts, ‘Roller Express’ plays out exactly as you’d imagine. It’s a journey, one which takes you from start to finish on top of warbling bass and clinking hi-hats. Tinny drums take you deeper into the mix, with female vocal dipping in and out of its percussion. Demonstrating another dimension of their skillset, Slang Banger prove a versatile trio with no signs of slowing down.

It’s time to get with the Program… Because either way, Slang Banger are about to take you prisoner as soon as that play button is pushed.

Up next is ‘Highgrade’, beginning with pads this track is set to annihilate dancefloor’s around the world over and over. Serious amen break drum work cuts through and delivers nothing but power and bass weight energy reminiscent of the dark days, fusing new elements with old skool flavour, delivering nothing short of a production masterpiece.

‘Hyper G’ and ‘Bagleys’ complete the EP. ‘Hyper G’ rolls in with mysterious, unearthly atmospherics layered on top of mangled drum edits building into a crushing assault. Heavy weight kick drums, clanged snares and mid range heavy stabs deliver an all-out tear rhythm, able to lead you onto any dance floor. ‘Bagleys’ sets a different tone. Taking you on a journey to the epic rave days of Bagleys nightclub with an echoed sample mixed on top of bitcrushed drum edits and murky pads, its rises into a storm of pitching down bass, and the drums are rolled in guaranteeing nothing but pure dancefloor satisfaction.

With 4 beautifully crafted masterpieces, Slang Banger blend the lines of old skool flavour and dark, tech infused bass lines to deliver something fresh, exciting and monstrous! Thus delivering the guarantee of world dance floor domination!

Program presents: ENCRYPTED 1.0 LP

Hibernating against an already impressively tight discography, Program has been biding its time in unleashing this next release.
With some of the genre’s most technically adept artists, the track-listing alone is enough to grab your attention. There is a high calibre of production standard present throughout the LP, audible from start to finish.
Whether you become submerged by Freek’s rolling ‘Enamoured’, accompanied by the pristine vocals of Pia Thaleia, or captured by the apocalyptic sounds of Slang Banger’s ‘Slaughter House’, every taste is catered for. Program sets aside its older sister label Ram and creates a breathing space, allowing it to grow. The label is a heavyweight in its own right; this album is only reaffirms that fact.
And such a range of versatility comes with names both old and new. L 33 returns to the imprint, with clashing bass conundrum ‘Manipulate’. Gerra & Stone also make an anticipated reappearance; their contribution ‘Po’rdosol’ is a steppy riddim constructed through a medley of beats and sliced up sample.
But relative newcomer Elliott Mac uses the LP as a pedestal for another stellar production. The budding artist flexes his capabilities across the soundscape of ‘Filter City’, delicately composed yet highly intricate. It’s demonstrative of Program’s dedication to emerging artists, sifting through cyberspace to showcase some of the best acts the underground has to offer.
So now it’s time to prepare your subs and plug in your speakers – Program have made a welcome return, further solidifying their position as leading tastemakers with a quality ensured guarantee. It’s once again, time to get with the Program!
