Afghanistan suicide blast in Kabul kills 48 – reports

The death toll from a suicide bomb attack in the Afghan capital has risen to 48 and is likely to rise further, according to local health officials. 67 others were injured in the attack on an Education Center in a Shi’ite neighbourhood of Kabul. ‘Saudis threaten to bomb Sanaa, more blood will be shed’ – analyst on Yemen conflict

Yemen’s former President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed by Houthi rebels close to the capital, Sanaa. The escalation has led the United Nations to call for an end to the conflict.

Until recently, Saleh’s allies had been fighting alongside Houthi rebels against the current president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi. However, on Saturday, he made a public break from the Shiite opposition fighters. That was seen as a betrayal by the Houthis.

Political analyst Omar Nashabe told us he believes the situation in Yemen may now become even worse.
