Fly-by honors WWII airmen who died saving kids

Air Force planes roared over Sheffield to honor 10 American airmen who sacrificed their lives to save British children playing in a park beneath their crippled bomber during World War II. One of those children, now 82, still feels guilt. (Feb. 22)

Ackroyd – Keep Telling Yourself

Our next London event – 27th September: http://bit.ly/SNB-RA // attend on Facebook: http://bit.ly/SNB-FB

Buy ‘Keep Telling Yourself’ – https://goo.gl/59xoMt

Serving up his first release with Proximity, Ackroyd shows clearly that he’s here to make waves in the scene, with a track that ticks all the boxes. Previous releases with Skank&Bass highlight the eclectic influences that make up this emerging talent’s repertoire.

Moving on to the track itself, the building, creeping clap tickles your spine before giving way to an unforgiving bassline, one that will pulse through all parts of your body in the dance. Although being big, bad, and heavy, the tune has an undeniable groove that only grows as more mids are released from their cage; fighting for space with the bassline and wonking the rhythm as they do it. The darkside of modern Drum & Bass can be seriously felt throughout; Metalheadz, Exit, & Dispatch all springing to mind.

Catch Ackroyd, under Bluewave, supporting the immense Randall at a forthcoming gig in London, and for those further north catch him in Sheffield in early October alongside Optiv & BTK, Fierce, and Nymfo.

Ackroyd – Snakecharmer (Free Download)

Download for free: http://bit.ly/SNB-011

Stream: http://spoti.fi/2a8jmzk

Skankandbass is dedicated towards the official promotion of record labels and artists in the world of drum & bass music. Since inception in 2010, Skankandbass has unearthed some of the freshest talents in the scene and has opened many doors for unsigned artists. Now, six years in to the game, Skankandbass decides to take on the role of a record label to put together a series of free download singles which aims to further help spread the work of the best unsigned, newcomer artists who deserve more recognition.

SNB011 is delivered by Ackroyd, a producer who dabbles in many styles of Drum & Bass, have it dark, liquid or jungle; it will always have something a little bit different to offer. Taking influence from artists under Dispatch, Metalheadz and Exit Records, Ackroyd’s current and future productions will be something to keep an eye and ear out for. Having made appearances in Sheffield, directly supporting the likes of Skeptical, DRS and Ivy Lab, the energy and weight of his DJ sets equally aren’t something to miss. These dark and minimal sounds bring a refreshing but gritty twist to the norm, and this is just the beginning! Watch out for this name.

SNB007 comes from newcomers Motional, a Sheffield based production duo. They have had successful releases on various labels, including C-Recordings and Diskool Records. The duo consists of John Waldron and Freddie Greatrex, both of whom have diverse musical backgrounds, having played instruments from an early age. After meeting at university, Freddie introduced John to the sound of Drum & Bass, which quickly led to the formation of Motional. Freddie has been an established DJ since 2013, regularly playing popular dance events across Sheffield. More recently, this has allowed the duo to demo their latest music at some of the city’s biggest electronic music events and venues, including Hospitality, Valve Sound System, and The Tuesday Club. Initially focused on the lighter side of Drum & Bass, the duo are determined to develop a more experimental, bass oriented sound, whilst maintaining the rich, melodic content that lies at the heart of their productions. Enjoy!

Quintessential stadium anthems are Delta Heavy’s forte and ‘Reborn’ demonstrates how they’ve gained this reputation. Setting show stopping-agendas since their first release on the RAM imprint, this next one is no different, however, a cinematic roller isn’t all this release has to offer. With remixes from Spoils and June Miller, there’s a colour reel of sound spinning throughout; a host of tracks to suit every palette.
‘Reborn’ embodies exactly what Delta Heavy represents as a collaborative project. An arpeggio of notes leads delicately into emotionally charged vocals, pedestalling the record and creating a musically picturesque backdrop. With the undertow of a pounding morphine bassline and the relentless instrumentation of jungle infused drums, there’s no mistaking the artists’ nod towards their harder productions. Epic, timeless and puffed out with a grandeur composition, Delta Heavy have yet to disappoint.
On the remixes, June Miller carefully crafts their take against the original, uncompromising yet delicately woven and not without its predecessors’ emotional crescendo. And lastly, Spoils introduces us to a genre-infused uptake that catches you unaware, with a steppy melody which stays true to its roots yet delves deep into Spoil’s production aptitude.
So once again, it’s time to take up Delta Heavy’s offerings. They’ve delivered the perfect successor to their ‘Apollo EP’, yet again reasserting their title as one of the bass scene’s heavyweights.

Full release: 15th March 2010
Formats: 2×12″ vinyl, CD and digital download

Med School storms into a new decade and continues to push exhilarating up-and-coming artists with some of the freshest drum+bass rhythms you are likely to hear. ‘New Blood 010’ is an invigorating selection of finger-on-the-pulse boundary-pushing electronic music where only the top sonic surgeons make the grade. Delivered on two piece vinyl CD and digital download, this is essential listening!

This stunning album exudes a healthy dose of diverse sounds yet maintains a high level of consistency from start to finish. From the atmospheric depths of Synkro and Kharm right through to Enei’s damaging bass oscillations and the twisted dynamics of Royalston. Stripped-down dancefloor vibes provided by Electrolyte, DJ Madd, Derrick, Tonika and Implex are perfectly balanced by elegant and forward-thinking creations from Circa, Pryzma, So:Flow and Joe Syntax. There’s also a remix first for Med School as supercool producer Stray stamps his authority on the Boston-based ambient/electronica outfit Helios.

Having scoured the planet for the hottest talent, Med School delivers music from all corners of the globe from London to Australia, Hungary to Cornwall, Russia to Manchester, Germany to Belarus and Ukraine to Sheffield. These young practitioners have checked your vital signs and are ready to deliver the next prognosis with an array of scalpel-sharp sounds and rhythmical remedies. Keep ears and eyes peeled for these producers in 2010 and beyond!
