A few cars still drive on Moscow’s circular ring road following the adoption of strict isolation rules decreed by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in a bid to curb the spread of novel coronavirus. The new restrictions apply to all the city’s residents, regardless of age. They are only allowed to leave their homes in the case of a medical emergency, to travel to jobs judged essential by the authorities, and to shop for food or medicine. IMAGES

Drone footage filmed on Tuesday shows the construction of a new coronavirus hospital in the village of Golokhvastovo in the Moscow region, some 50 kilometres (31 miles) from the capital. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said earlier that around 40 percent of the construction work was already complete.
According to the Moscow mayor’s official website, about five thousand workers and 35 construction companies are involved in the construction of the hospital. The medical facility will occupy an area of 43 hectares and house up to 600 patients. According to Sobyanin, the hospital is supposed to be finished within a month.
On Tuesday Russia registered 57 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the number of infected to 495. There has been one coronavirus-related death in Russia.
