We Reviewed Diet Coke’s Four New Flavors — Here’s The Verdict

McCall: I was right. That’s gross.

This isn’t the Diet Coke you are used to.

Coca-Cola has released four new flavors of the iconic soft drink.

Ginger Lime. Feisty Cherry. Zesty Blood Orange. Twisted Mango.

The new flavors are part of a big rebranding for Diet Coke. The new flavors, along with the original flavor, will come in redesigned packaging.

We tried the new flavors.

Ginger Lime

Reuben: I don’t have high expectations for Diet Coke Ginger Lime.

It’s not terr-. No it is terrible. The aftertaste — it just tastes fake.

Sam: I think it’s a little bit sweeter than regular Diet Coke. Diet Coke kind of has that like bite to it whereas this feels a little bit smoother.

Kate: The ginger isn’t super strong but it’s kind of there and it’s good.

Mccall: Oh that’s not bad actually. You don’t taste the ginger it’s just lime.

Zesty Blood Orange

Reuben: It tastes like if you had a little orange soda left in your cup and then you put diet coke into it — that’s what it tastes like and it doesn’t taste good.

Emma: I don’t taste any diet in that. Like that tastes like a full-flavored soda.

McCall:  This is straight up orange soda.

Kate: It also just tastes like normal orange soda. Not like Zesty Blood Orange Soda. I don’t know I would not drink this.

Feisty Cherry

Mark: Feisty. Feisty Cherry.

Reuben: It doesn’t taste terrible but it tastes like a bad version of cherry coke. Like if you wanted real cherry coke it would be better but this is passable.

Celia: It doesn’t have too much of a difference between other sodas that kind of are cherry-ey tasting.

McCall: But I actually really like this. I would drink this. It’s pretty good.

Twisted Mango

Kate: It almost like smells like medicine and you smell it before you even taste it.

Sam: I would say this has the most intense flavor of all of them.

Emma: I think it is kind of chemically tasting.

Reuben: It doesn’t taste like mango. It sort of tastes just like flat Diet Coke with some weird flavor in it that does not represent mango at all.

Kate: It smells kind of gross and fake.

Some final thoughts…

Kate: I liked the cherry one. I thought the cherry one was really really good I thought it was kind of classic but still interesting.

McCall:  If I had to choose definitely the lime.

Reuben: So far this is my favorite flavor but the bar is pretty low when it comes to these flavored Diet Cokes.

Celia: I think I liked the Twisted Mango the best out of the four. Even though I liked all the four, this is the one I would be most likely to go to the store and buy.

Reuben: The flavors just don’t get me going. And the tall cans are just weird. It like reminds you of like an energy drink but it’s not. It’s just weird.

This Bricklaying Robot Can Build Walls Faster Than Humans (HBO)

Meet the Semi-Automated Mason or SAM, a robot that is so good at building walls it could take over the construction industry. Created by New York-based company Construction Robotics, the brick-laying robot promises to both increase productivity while reducing overall labor costs.

While the efficiency on construction sites has been stagnant in the last 20 to 30 years, manufacturing efficiency has increased significantly due to robotics and technology. Construction Robotics created SAM to solve that problem. SAM requires a human partner to smooth over the works, but the heavy lifting is left to the bot.

The robot can lay bricks at least three times faster than humans – and it never gets tired or makes mistakes. VICE News went to a construction site in Virginia to see SAM at work.

White House Requests $500 Million to Aid Syrian Rebels

Source: http://rt.com/usa/168720-obama-syrian-rebel-fund/

Home

https://www.facebook.com/global.paradigm.shift

The White House on Thursday asked Congress for half-a-billion dollars in aid to go towards opposition fighters in Syria at war with the regime of recently re-elected President Bashar Al-Assad.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered the Pentagon to develop more detailed plans to train and equip moderate Syrian rebels, should Congress approve the requested funding.

In a report sent to lawmakers at the Capitol on Thursday, the White House requested $500 million in aid to “help defend the Syrian people, stabilize areas under opposition control and facilitate the provision of essential services, counter terrorist threats and promote conditions for a negotiated settlement.”

The Associated Press reported that the multimillion dollar request makes up just a fraction of a larger, $65.8 billion overseas operations request sent to Congress that, if approved, would fund a number of Pentagon and State Department programs, as well as $1 billion in assistance to nations adjacent to Syria.

This latest request by the administration for aid comes merely weeks after the president outlined his foreign policy objectives during a speech last month at the West Point Military Academy graduation ceremony.

“As president, I made a decision that we should not put American troops into the middle of this increasingly sectarian civil war, and I believe that is the right decision. But that does not mean we shouldn’t help the Syrian people stand up against a dictator who bombs and starves his own people,” Obama said. “And in helping those who fight for the right of all Syrians to choose their own future, we are also pushing back against the growing number of extremists who find safe haven in the chaos.”

“So with the additional resources I’m announcing today, we will step up our efforts to support Syria’s neighbors — Jordan and Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq — as they contend with refugees and confront terrorists working across Syria’s borders.”

At the time, Obama added that he would “work with Congress to ramp up support for those in the Syrian opposition who offer the best alternative to terrorists and brutal dictators.” Now only weeks later, he appears to have taken the first steps to securing such funding.

Since nearly the start of the Syrian civil war more than three years ago, hawkish Republicans in Congress have urged the White House to take action against Assad, with Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) going as far as to travel abroad to meet with rebel fighters overseas. Others have condemned any response from Washington altogether, though, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), who this week attributed the arming of fighters in Iraq as the impetus for a “jihadist wonderland” there created on Uncle Sam’s watch and dime.

According to the AP’s Julie Pace, White House officials said the Obama administration would work with members of Congress and regional player to come to terms with what sort of training and assistance in particular would be provided to opposition fighters by the US.

“One potential option,” Pace wrote, “would be to base US personnel in Jordan and conduct the training exercise there.”

Also last month, the Pentagon deployed more than 6,000 Marines to Jordan to conduct drills alongside military officials there.
