Fleeing Russian Airstrikes: Breaking Borders

More than 250,000 people have been killed and 11 million forced to flee their homes in almost five years of fighting in Syria. Thousands of internally displaced people are now massed on the border with Turkey. But right now only ambulances and a limited number of refugees are allowed to cross.

Around 50 people were killed in February when a series of airstrikes hit schools and hospitals in two rebel-held towns in northern Syria. The Turkish government blamed one set of strikes on Russia, while UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon slammed the attacks as “blatant violations of international laws.”

As the humanitarian crisis intensifies further, VICE News travels to Kilis, a Turkish town on the border with Syria, to meet some of the people who have now escaped the war, and hear their accounts of life under the bomb.

North Korea’s Nuclear Threat: VICE News Interviews Victor Cha

Victor Cha was President George W. Bush’s top advisor on North Korea and participated in the Six-Party Talks, in which the US, Russia, China, Japan and South Korea tried to negotiate with the regime of late leader Kim Jong-il to halt North Korea’s nuclear program. The talks were unsuccessful, and North Korea’s nuclear capabilities have never been greater.

In January, North Korea conducted a nuclear test for the fourth time since 2009, successfully detonating what it claimed was a hydrogen bomb. A month later, North Korea launched a satellite into orbit, violating an international ban on ballistic missile testing. The UN Security Council recently voted to enact harsh new sanctions, which prompted young leader Kim Jong-un to publicly order his military to ready their nukes for use at any time.

VICE News sat down with Cha, now a senior adviser and the Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, to talk about North Korea’s nuclear threats, Pyongyang’s uneasy alliance with China, and the state of the Kim regime.

Russian Aggression and NATO Warplanes (Excerpt from ‘Estonia’s National Militia’)

Since Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict in 2014, nearby Baltic states have been on high alert.Estonia, the smallest country in the region, signed a military equipment deal worth 138 million euros ($147 million) last December — the largest procurement in its history.

The country also has a growing militia, known as the Estonian Defense League, made up of 15,000 volunteers. They take part in war scenario exercises, with many of the members keeping firearms of their own at home. Should Estonia’s sovereignty be threatened, the militia will be called upon to defend it at all costs.

The organization’s membership has risen by 10 percent since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, partly based on national Estonian fears that Russia will attempt to breach its eastern border. NATO has increased its fighter jets and ground troops in the country, as a show of what they say is support to its ally, yet Russia has claimed this is “provocative” and held its own military exercises near the border.

In this excerpt from ‘The Russians Are Coming: Estonia’s National Militia,’ VICE News talks to the head of the Estonian Air Force about NATO warplanes and the country’s tense relationship with Russia.

Raid in Saint-Denis: France At War (Dispatch 3)

Five days after Islamic State militants killed 129 people in a series of coordinated terror attacks across Paris, the French capital remains on edge. On Tuesday, the Eiffel Tower was evacuated because of a bomb scare, police on the scene told VICE News. Heavily armed cops and soldiers cordoned off the area for several hours, while tourists took selfies and watched from surrounding buildings.

Early Wednesday morning, security forces raided a building in the north Paris suburb of Saint-Denis in search of the suspected architect of the attacks. Seven people were arrested in the operation and two killed, including a female suicide bomber blew herself up.

Nevertheless, life in Paris continues. VICE News spoke with Parisians who had gathered to watch the France-England soccer match — in a pub just around the corner from one of Friday night’s bloody attack sites.

The Georgia Pipeline (Extra Scene from ‘The Russians Are Coming: Georgia’s Creeping Occupation’)

Watch Full Length – http://bit.ly/1kArgnK

In July 2015, Russian backed forces moved the boundary fence between Russian occupied South Ossetia and Georgia – making more of Georgian territory under Russian control. Georgians refer to this as the creeping occupation, and several people who unfortunately live in the area now have a different citizenship. In this extra scene, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky questions Georgia’s Deputy Energy Minister about how their policies may have enabled Russia’s increased presence.

Warp Fa2e – Brain Damage [Close 2 Death]

Would you look at that, another sound design and groove relic surfacing in the DnB world that happens to come from Russia (and definitely with love). Consistently smashing neurofunk imprint for several years now Close 2 Death is back again with a brand new and red hot album – Warp Fa2e’s “No Fear” LP! In the world of next-level neurofunk, you won’t find that it gets much better than this.
Warp Fa2e made his artist debut on YouSoFat with monster of a tune called “Cracks” in 2014, and now with a handful of singles and EPs on labels like Greypost Audio and even this one, the Russian badman up-and-comer is ready for his career beginning full length album. “No Fear” LP proudly boasts ten solid tracks that are far from minimal. This is not DnB for the weak or feeble, this is as hard and thrashing as technological neuro goes without turning into just plain crossbreed or hardcore. With tunes like “Fatman” showcasing a really slick Telekinesis-like sound and anthems like “Total Destruction” and title track “No Fear” (featuring the likes of Neuro lyrical badman Coppa himself), it should go without saying that this one is an absolute staple for the record bag.

Right Sector Blockade: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 111)

In September, Crimea’s ethnic Muslim minority, the Crimean Tatars, and the radical right-wing organization known as Right Sector set up a blockade on several highways leading into Crimea to stop food and other supplies from entering the Russia-occupied peninsula of Ukraine.

VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky traveled to the roadblocks near Crimea and spoke with the organizers to find out why they had taken these controversial measures, which could potentially have humanitarian consequences for residents of Crimea, including the Crimean Tatars themselves.

Twisted Facts & Brain Crisis – Murk (Instrumental)

It feels great to be uploading some more fantastic stuff from Russia (with Neuro-love). Twisted Facts is a name that you may not be familiar with, but Brain Crisis is one that you probably should be familiar with, especially since he was noticed by Teebee back in 2013 and one of his track was signed to Subtitles UK and featured on the fan-favourite compilation LP “Sine Language”. This track was released as a single on Disturbed just months before “Sine Language” in that same year, and all I can say is that it goes very hard; you know you aren’t going to be hearing anything minimal or gentle within the very first second of listening. You can find this tune on the “Nebula” EP.

Weapons Grade is a channel for uploading only the most forward thinking and stomping underground Neurofunk. I will try my best to promote only the truly under-appreciated tunes that go lesser heard. Uploads will probably be daily, or possibly even more frequently. Every track featured here has been purchased from the respective label, and is in 320 kbps (MP3) quality before upload. All artwork in every video is from http://www.wallhaven.cc/ unless otherwise stated! I won’t feature any track on this channel that isn’t advanced Neurofunk and I will never monetize a video. This channel is purely for your entertainment and discovery, and for my hobby. I hope you guys enjoy thoroughly!

If there is a problem with any of the tracks uploaded, please consult at me at my email (found on my channel under “For business enquiries”). I will take necessary measures to make content owners satisfied with the state of their track, whether it be on the channel or not. If you wish to submit a track for possible upload, please send it to me via the same email.

Encryptors – Red Java

I’ll admit, I had to do a bit of research about Encryptors before this upload just so I could write a description. This particular track has been sitting in my library for years and I’ve rinsed it so many times without thinking of the origins because it’s just so groovy. Turns out this one is straight out of Russia! Encryptors is a hardly at all known producing duo consisting of Koocha and Dv2R (a name you’ve most likely heard before if you’re into good music). I haven’t heard anything by the dudes except for “Red Java”, but this track is enough to keep me locked on this name from now on. From the “Beyond the Glass” EP (2013) on YSF.

Paimon – Acromegaly Ft. Place 2B & 2Sides

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my all-time favourite Drum & Bass track. This tune is essentially a challenge from Russia to the rest of the world. “Acromegaly” is the brainchild of four Neurofunk veterans, and it is a perfect combination of beauty and evil. If the vocals in between the drops don’t give you chills, then you’re not listening close enough. From the “Door of the Dead” EP (2011) on Disturbed!

Here is the SoundCloud for Teddy Killerz, the name that Place 2B & Paimon release under nowadays:
