An angry crowd in India threw stones at police on Monday, injuring at least 15 officers.
The attack took place in Rourkela, in the state of Odisha. The irate citizens, who also built a road blockade and burned tires, were reportedly reacting to the city’s Covid-19 lockdown measures. These measures include ‘containment’ and ‘buffer’ zones where cases of the virus have been found. The crowd had gathered at one of the buffer zones.
Despite a population of 1.35 billion, India has had just 145,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 6,147 deaths.
