Volatile Cycle – Backlash

Following the formula set out with the first EP released last year that brought into focus names such as Trilo, Subtension, Minor Rain & Klax. TheCompound series continues its commitment to discover and showcase the most exciting new d&b producers in the scene today with the arrival of volume two. Tweaking the freedom of the digital platform slightly from the first instalment to allow us to focus on 2 new artists and explore differing aspects of their productions.

Handing over the reigns and bringing things a little closer to home – the next 2 cuts are supplied by UK based duo – Volatile Cycle. Having already released music on Noisia’s Invisible imprint these two producers are certainly a name to look out for in 2015.

Closing the release the duo take us deeper into dark territory and assault the senses with a barrage of beats and morphing bass that make up the track Backlash. An unapologetic stomper leaving you under no illusion that these two mean business. Watch out!

Setting the scene first with Switchblade. Keeping it dance floor oriented and straight up nasty, the track kicking things off aggressively and doesn’t relent until the very last. Peak time pressure, only for the hardened.

Disprove & Signal – Arkaik Twelve

Flipping the script on his style – the 2nd track collaborating with Signal, a very promising 16 year old producer who’s sure to grab peoples attention over the coming months, Arkaik Twelve is a straight master class in sound design. A baron alien soundscape punctuated with cavernous bass groans and relentless, intricate drum edits that will leave you dazed and confused. If you were a fan of his collab with Maztek: Bad Body you’re going to love this one.

Disprove – War Drive

Tweaking the freedom of the digital platform slightly from the first instalment to allow us to focus on 2 new artists and explore differing aspects of their productions.

Stepping up to the plate first we have the Italian powerhouse – Disprove. No stranger to Hardware, having already debuted his production skills with the collaborative track – Bad Body on Maztek’s 3.0 album late last year. We were keen to see what else Disprove had been working on and these two cuts were quickly snapped up. First off is Wardrive. A lumbering chunk of offbeat dance floor funk, executed with razor sharp accuracy. Bass line progression underpinned by sparse and bashy drums this one can transgress a multitude of d&b sub genres.

The 2nd track: Deformation, rises and falls around a more straight up, insistent beat and sparking atmospherics. Minor Rain likes to play around with the tools and elements at his disposal, working and creating something new every time he sits down to make music. This one’ll come and find you if you try to run away.

From a background playing piano and saxophone to his adventures with Soundnbeats, Minor Rain is a musician who is always exploring, always expanding his horizons.

You can feel your horizons expanding with the first of the tracks: Totem Tube. From its tribal percussion beginnings, soon morphs out into a stinging, rising thing of beauty. Beats are stripped bare, punching their way straight to the heart. They are surrounded by urgent, working bass runs which are seamlessly incorporated into the track, leaving nothing out and leaving listeners desperate for more. This is deep, strident music which gets better the more you delve into it.

Likewise Deformation, which rises and falls around a more straight up, insistent beat and sparking atmospherics. Minor Rain likes to play around with the tools and elements at his disposal, working and creating something new every time he sits down to make music. This one’ll come and find you if you try to run away.

Finishing up the release we turn to Resistor and the more experimental side of Minor Rains productions. Retaining his precise and deliberate placing of elements Minor Rain weaves together a tense heavily precussive track, which balances tense and calming moods in equal measure. A perfect example that showcases Minor Rains adept understanding of rhythm and musicianship.

Minor Rain proving beyond doubt this year he will become a force to be reckoned with.

Renegade Hardware is proud to present the debut album from Maztek: Three Point Zero.

Over a year in the making, this body of work is without question Mazteks finest work to date. Encompassing his trademark uncompromising dance floor style as well as explorative sonic journeys into elaborate textured sound design and hip hop fused productions.

Based around the concept that we as a species have come to a point in our own evolution where man, machine and spirituality have all merged together, Maztek’s aptly named ThreePointZero explores the relationship between the real and the cyber world.

Featuring an array of well-chosen collaborations of both vocalists and producers alike – such as Dutch hip hop crew Dope D.O.D, Hardware / Virus’s BTK, Viper’s Insideinfo, Ram’s Audio, Italian new blood Disprove and vocalist; Coppa. Maztek has created a cogent and extremely innovative long player that once again proves why DnB will never die.

In his own words: ‘Three Point Zero represents something new to me, moving from 2.0 to 3.0. It relates to the “cyber” life we all now lead in one way or another. 3.0 could also reference the next stage in human evolution. Where the body, spirituality and technology combine. Human 3.0, when a man becomes his own Prophet.’

-Maztek

This sampler provides an entry point into what to expect from the full album, which will be released in early December.
