Aisling and her joey Rupert were rescued at the weekend from bush fires raging in eastern Australia when police from the town of Jimboola in Queensland picked up the distressed animals.

Rumble in the Outback: Aussie boxing troupe keeps on swinging

Fred Brophy runs a boxing troupe — the last in Australia and one of the few left worldwide — travelling to outback towns where someone’s always up for a fight. Back in the 1930s to 1950s, such tents were a fixture at country fairs and agricultural shows in the major cities but health and safety concerns led most states and territories to ban the travelling show, apart from Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Inground Pool! Sinkhole with swirling water appears in backyard of house in Australia

A sinkhole filled with water appeared in the backyard of a house in Australia on Tuesday. House owners Lynn and Ray McKay woke up to find the small hole after being informed by a neighbour of its existence in the Queensland state town of Ipswich. The sinkhole with swirling water got wider gradually, swallowing part of the yard, and increasing to about eight metres (26.2 feet). An old mine shaft could have been the cause of the sinkhole.
