Prude lost consciousness during the police encounter and was taken to hospital where he died after being removed from life support, seven days after his detention. Local media said an autopsy ruled the death a homicide caused by “complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint.” The report also listed a low level of the drug PCP in Prude’s blood.
