PC ahoy! Ships will be gender neutral from now on

The Scottish Maritime Museum to replace all references to ships in its displays with gender neutral terms – ‘it’ instead of ‘she’, reasoning that ‘[museum staff] have to move with the times and understand the way people look at things today.’ – which brings up few questions that RT team addressed to Portsmouth citizens.

Take a look on board the Royal Navy’s £3 billion warship

Business Insider UK was allowed aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Navy’s most powerful warship.

The huge ship weighs 65,000 tonnes and is the length of three football pitches, making it the biggest ever British warship.

The £3 billion vessel recently arrived at its base in Portsmouth after several months carrying out sea trials.

Aircraft flight tests will be completed by 2018, but it is expected that the ship itself won’t be fully operational until 2021.

AERIAL: UK’s HMS Queen Elizabeth flagship carrier sails into Portsmouth

Britain’s new flagship aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth arrived on Wednesday at its home port in southern England to great fanfare.
A fleet of vessels and helicopters accompanied the ship as it approached the harbor at the naval base in Portsmouth, where the 280-meter vessel will be based for its estimated 50-year lifespan. The $3.87 billion ship has been at sea undergoing tests and training since June, when it left a dockyard in Scotland.

Macca & Loz Contreras – Anything For You

Buy a limited edition DnB Legends Tee – http://bit.ly/DNBLegends

Released 26th June 2017.

Hailing from Portsmouth and Leeds UK, Macca & Loz Contreras have been steadily on the rise over the past few years releasing the soulful side of drum & bass through a host of labels. Now picked up for their debut outing on SGN by Friction, ‘Anything For You’ and ‘In The Mood’ are drenched in swooning summer vibes, perfect for the hazy nights ahead.

“We’re both really excited to get our debut release on SGN. We felt it was a good time after having a little break from production since finishing our album.”

Loz: “We made ‘In The Mood’ first, Macca found a huge sample and got some really good ideas down quite quickly. I worked on a vocal hook to give the track that little bit extra. Macca then did his thing, in no time the tune was rolling!”

Macca: “With ‘Anything For You’, Loz made a rare trip down to Portsmouth after we played a gig together. We had a few hours spare to write some music, and he had brought a few samples on a stick which we sat down together to work on. It was an inspiring few hours and the bulk of the tune was done that afternoon, followed by months of fine-tuning!! We hope you enjoy the tracks, and we’re really pleased to say there’s lots more in the pipeline!”

Lynx ft. DRS & Kemo – 2nd Floor

Sign up for information to the debut Skankandbass London event! http://bit.ly/SNB-LDN

Buy: http://btprt.dj/1U2waK6

Producer, DJ, remixer, and fundamentally a musician, Portsmouth’s Steve Lynx has had a storied career in drum & bass. His is one of the most recognisable and original sounds in the genre, and his music has graced the likes of Ram, Playaz, Digital Soundboy, Creative Source Hospital & Soul:R.

Now, Lynx is going back in order to go forwards. To celebrate ten years of dedication to the d&b scene, he relaunches his imprint, Detail Recordings. By gathering the best unreleased and unheard tracks spanning the last ten years, Lynx presents – Vault 1. The album features contributions and collaborations from the likes of DRS, Calibre, Tali, Kemo and many many more. Get ready to enter the Vault.

First off you descend to the deep, dark 2nd Floor alongside DRS and Kemo. The track, written in the era of the Raw Truth LP (Soul:R), acts as an intro to the whole project. The slow and low Ruffneck Sound follows, then Lynx shows off the full range of his skills on the aptly-titled, full-on old skool rinse of Professor.

The debut release from Hospital Records’ latest exclusive signing Lynx. This Portsmouth based produced is known to many within the drum+bass scene for his unique, rhythmic, anthemic productions, and for those who don’t know – be assured you’ll be hearing a lot more from him over the coming months. This EP of four stand out cuts introduces the diverse sound of a producer at the top of his game.

Lead track “Where Are You?” raises the levels of P Funk intrigue to breaking point, before the pentatonic wizardry of a trademark Lynx bass-line melody kicks in. ‘Bees Knees’ follows on – a track so infectious it’s been keeping staff at Hospital’s Purple Gates HQ awake all night.

‘Hurting’ takes things deeper and darker, with Master X’s heartfelt delivery underpinned by some filthy jungle styles. Aggressive distorted subs, off beat percussion and animal cries provide the soundtrack to a royal rumble in the rainforest. Last but by no means least comes ‘Blue’, a hard-boiled P-funk steppa. Like a post apocalyptic night down at Ronnie Scott’s, this jam is hot.

With past releases on Ram, Playaz, Digital Soundboy, Soul;R and Creative Source, it’s fair to say Lynx has earned his stripes. It’s time for him to take things to the next level as he becomes part of Hospital’s new generation.

Quintessential stadium anthems are Delta Heavy’s forte and ‘Reborn’ demonstrates how they’ve gained this reputation. Setting show stopping-agendas since their first release on the RAM imprint, this next one is no different, however, a cinematic roller isn’t all this release has to offer. With remixes from Spoils and June Miller, there’s a colour reel of sound spinning throughout; a host of tracks to suit every palette.
‘Reborn’ embodies exactly what Delta Heavy represents as a collaborative project. An arpeggio of notes leads delicately into emotionally charged vocals, pedestalling the record and creating a musically picturesque backdrop. With the undertow of a pounding morphine bassline and the relentless instrumentation of jungle infused drums, there’s no mistaking the artists’ nod towards their harder productions. Epic, timeless and puffed out with a grandeur composition, Delta Heavy have yet to disappoint.
On the remixes, June Miller carefully crafts their take against the original, uncompromising yet delicately woven and not without its predecessors’ emotional crescendo. And lastly, Spoils introduces us to a genre-infused uptake that catches you unaware, with a steppy melody which stays true to its roots yet delves deep into Spoil’s production aptitude.
So once again, it’s time to take up Delta Heavy’s offerings. They’ve delivered the perfect successor to their ‘Apollo EP’, yet again reasserting their title as one of the bass scene’s heavyweights.
