How Transport For London Organizes 340,000 Lost Items

Have you ever used public transport in London and lost an umbrella, mobile phone, or a bag? Well, if you have then there is a good chance that it may have ended up in the capitals Lost Property Office. The office in Baker Street is home to thousands of lost items that have been left across TfL networks, which includes the Underground, buses and the Docklands Light Railway.

We were shown around by the office manager, Paul Cowan, who explained the meticulous and well-organized system of how they store all these items. Paul also shares with us some of the weirdest things he has seen come through the office and how you can reclaim any lost items you think you may have misplaced.

The TfL Lost Property office opened in 1934 in London, England. The office received over 340,000 during 2017/2018. We were given a tour to see how things are organized and how you can reclaim any lost items.

2018 Was All About “The Line” — And Everyone Who Crossed It (HBO)

This year was a difficult one for the concept we refer to as “the line.” Plenty of people, platforms, and memes, managed to cross it, often without realizing — or admitting they’d realized — the line was ever there.

YouTube’s enfant terrible, Logan Paul, rang in the new year crossing the line when he published his vlog of a trip to Japan’s so-called Suicide Forest, stumbling across an apparent suicide victim. It wasn’t until Paul uploaded a video a month later in which he tasered a dead rat that YouTube thought the line had been crossed far enough for ad revenue to be disabled on his videos — though just temporarily. The whole experience forced Paul to look inward and realize that the only true path to redemption was obvious: a pay-per-view boxing match between himself and another YouTuber.

Tide Pods began their year as a laundry product, but within a week, the Tide Pod Challenge had launched a thousand explainers, and morphed into just another reason for baby boomers to write off an entire generation.

Tech platforms wrestled with where to draw the line all year when it came to policing content, as seen in the case of Alex Jones. It took Apple deleting five podcasts connected with Alex Jones from its iTunes store for Facebook to finally act, deleting four of his pages, with Twitter following with its ban soon after.

So as the year wraps up, here’s our attempt at cataloguing all the lines crossed this year. And here’s to the new year, full of hope and possibility — and so, so many lines, yet-to-be-crossed.

What It’s Like To Have A Famous Far-Right Sibling And Disagree With Them (HBO)

Politics can create deeply awkward Thanksgiving dinners for many American families, but for these guys, politics is actually tearing their families apart. Dave and Tim Gosar were so appalled by the public positions of their brother, Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar, that they appeared in an ad for his political opponent. Curtis Ingraham is the brother of Fox News host Laura Ingraham. He says they used to be so close they could finish each other’s sentences; now he denounces her hot takes on Twitter.

“Are you supposed to stand by your family no matter what they do? ‘Oh, hi Paul, other than demonizing immigrants and trying to take away our healthcare… how’s it going?” Dave Gosar said. “Let’s agree to disagree about taking babies from their parents at the border…Pass the turkey!”

Curtis’ sister was just parodied on Saturday Night Live. He said Kate McKinnon captured his sister’s mannerisms beautifully, but he’s unsettled by what the parody symbolizes. “Someone asked me: is that your sister or is she playing a personality?” Curtis said. “I think that is her now, that’s who she has become.”

VICE News brought the three of them together in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, before the midterm elections, to talk about what it’s like to experience a very common family drama on a national stage.

Achilles the cat ready to start predicting WC-2018 results

A deaf, white cat named Achilles is soon to begin his work as Russia’s official soothsayer for the World Cup, following the example of Paul the Octopus who became a star in 2010. Paul predicted winners for that years’ World Cup by choosing one out of two boxes containing food, while Achilles will be presented with bowls marked with teams’ flags.
