Ruth E. Carter is looking to inspire young artists with her work as a trailblazing costume designer. The longtime Spike Lee collaborator says she hopes her upcoming career achievement award and Oscar nomination for her Afro-futuristic wardrobes in “Black Panther” can “knock down” more doors so others like herself can walk through them. Free solo: a spectacular ascent towards the Oscars

Climbing close to 1,000 metres of sheer rock face, solo, without ropes and with death waiting at every turn, is the subject of ‘Free Solo’. The film, co-produced by Jimmy Chin and among the candidates for an Oscar, focuses on young climber Alex Honnold in his bid to complete the free solo ascent of the spectacular “El Capitan” rockface in Yosemite Natural Park, California.
