Fighting Coronavirus in London: A Junior Doctor’s Journey on the Frontline

Nathan Lee was on a rotation in a family practice as part of his training when he got an email saying all junior doctors in the community were to report to the hospital as part of the National Health Service’s — or NHS’s — response to coronavirus.

“We didn’t get any sort of induction or told what was going on. We literally went from a meeting right to the ward and we were on the floor seeing patients,” Lee said.

Captain Tom Moore receives thousands of cards ahead of his 100th birthday | AFP

NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore receives over 125,000 cards ahead of his 100th birthday. Moore initially set out to raise just £1,000 for Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) by walking 100 laps of his 25-metre (82-foot) garden, with the help of his walking frame. But his journey resonated with a public inundated with grim pandemic coverage and he became a global phenomenon praised by British Olympic great Mo Farrah and Prince William. Guinness World Records announced Moore had broken the record for raising the most money in an individual charity walk — more than £27 million ($33 million, 31 million euros). IMAGES
