Moon landing fete in Neil Armstrong’s hometown

Celebrations were in full swing across the country for the 50th anniversary of humanity’s first footsteps on another world. In Neil Armstrong’s hometown of Wapakoneta, Ohio, nearly 2,000 runners competed in “Run to the Moon” races. (July 20)

The spacesuit that US astronaut Neil Armstrong wore 50 years ago during the Apollo 11 mission to the moon is unveiled at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. Lisa Young, who worked to conserve the spacesuit, called it “an engineering marvel” that “kept Neil Armstrong alive” on the moon. Armstrong’s spacesuit was last shown to the public at the museum 13 years ago.

Armstrong’s restored spacesuit goes on display

The spacesuit that Apollo 11’s Neil Armstrong wore on the moon is back on display in mint condition. The suit was rehabbed before it was unveiled Tuesday by Vice President Mike Pence at the Air and Space Museum. (July 16)

First moon landing log book, tapes, at auction

A lunar module timeline book used by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the first manned trip to the moon will be auctioned by Christie’s in New York. The auction house expects the book to fetch between seven and nine million dollars. (July 12)
