SURVEILLANCE PANDEMIC: Edward Snowden and Naomi Klein Discuss The Creeping Surveillance State.

Spy planes, helicopters, and drones surveilled hundreds of thousands of Americans as they took to the streets to protest police brutality and the killing of George Floyd. Meanwhile, a series of surveillance startups are using the coronavirus pandemic to track people, analyze outbreaks, and otherwise attempt to legitimize their technology.

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, author and The Intercept senior correspondent Naomi Klein, Mijente campaign organizer Jacinta González, and Motherboard staff writer Edward Ongweso Jr. discuss how technology is used against Black Lives Matters protesters, undocumented immigrants, and Black and brown communities more broadly.

Watch the Trailer for Jeremy Corbyn: The Outsider

In September 2015, veteran left-winger Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader of the British Labour Party. After 33 years as a back bench member of parliament, the 66-year-old became one of the most important politicians in Britain.

Jeremy was propelled to leadership by a generation of voters who had been turned off by traditional politics. He attracted 200,000 new members to the party who wanted someone who presented an alternative to the slick, executive politicians who cared more about corporate elites than the people on the street.

But many Labour members of parliament don’t share the new membership’s enthusiasm for Jeremy’s socialist agenda. As well as facing challenges from his own colleagues, since becoming leader Jeremy has been the subject of a hostile media that he believes seeks to undermine his leadership.

Over the course of eight weeks, VICE News gained unique access to Jeremy Corbyn, through the Panama Papers and Iain Duncan Smith’s resignation to the local elections and accusations of anti-Semitism within the party, offering a rare insight into the man and the team around him.

This is Only the Beginning: COP21 – Climate Emergency (Dispatch 6)

On Saturday December 12, the UN climate negotiations between nearly 200 countries finally resulted in what world leaders called a historic agreement marking the end of the fossil fuel era.

To put pressure on decision makers before the final announcement of the deal, thousands of civilians and climate activists in Paris mobilized to form giant “red lines” in the center of Paris, to symbolize the boundaries that negotiators must not cross.

VICE News finds out why the French authorities lifted the ban on protests for the end of the COP21, why people are protesting when the climate deal is being celebrated as a ‘turning point’, and meets a UN Climate Summit observer and former key negotiator to find out what the deal really means.

Naomi Klein and Jeremy Corbyn: COP21 – Climate Emergency (Dispatch 5)

As the COP21 climate talks reach their final crucial stages, outside of the negotiation halls in Paris environmental NGOs, grassroots organizations, climate justice activists and trade unions from all over the world have been uniting to form a new global green movement.

One of its driving forces is Canadian social activist Naomi Klein, author of This Changes Everything, Capitalism vs The Climate. She has been speaking at activist meetings and talking to UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who before being elected committed to a 100 percent sustainable energy transition in the UK by 2030.

The last week of the COP21 has seen the opening of the climate action zone, a space for civil society to mobilize and prepare its final protest showdown at the end of the conference on December 12, now known as “D12”.

VICE News meets Naomi Klein and Jeremy Corbyn and finds out what this new international climate justice movement has in store for the end of the summit.
