ECHR rules defaming Muhammad not protected by free speech

The European Court of Human Rights (#ECHR) has ruled that defaming the Prophet #Mohammed falls outside the limits of acceptable #FreeSpeech.
The case saw a panel of judges reject an appeal from an Austrian woman, who’d been seeking to overturn a conviction for insulting Islam.

Football fans attack Muslims celebrating Prophet’s birthday in Greece

Clashes erupted in Athens on Sunday when a group of football fans encountered Muslims celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. According to reports, the clashes kicked off when fans of Thessaloniki football club PAOK, who were on an away match in the capital, ran into the procession.

Tribute to 3rd Imam: Shia Muslims celebrate Ashura in Iraq

Thousands of Shia Muslims are commemorating Ashura in Karbala, Iraq, paying tribute to the third Imam of Shia Muslims, Husayn ibn Ali. Participants are expressing sorrow for Husayn ibn Ali, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was martyred at the Battle of Karbala in October, 680 AD.
