Cracked tarmac and twisted steel barriers and beams bear testament to an attempt by the driver of a “plus-50 ton” lorry to cross a bridge designed to carry less than half that load. The bridge, at Mirepoix-sur-Tarn north of Toulouse in southern France, collapsed into the river killing the lorry driver and a 15-year-old girl. IMAGES

Truck believed to cause collapse of bridge that killed two people in France | AFP

The town of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn, north of Toulouse, awakens the day after the collapse of a suspension bridge which led to the deaths of two people, including the driver driving what is believed to be an “overweight” lorry at the time of the accident.
