Few acts showcase drum & bass’s exciting creative scope with the same skillish vibrancy as June Miller.

Since signing to Ram Records a year ago, the Dutch/Anglo duo have locked themselves away in their Utrecht HQ working on a series of mindblowing creations. Deep in sonic solitude, they’ve pushed themselves to whole new levels… As proved by the stunning ‘Empathy’ and ‘Operation Ivy’. Both pivotal tracks on Andy C’s explosively extensive ‘Nightlife 6’ opus, these cuts represent June Miller’s chiselled production skills like never before.

We kick off with ‘Empathy’. Igniting with a surging sense of soul, the unity of timeless synths and spellbinding vocals set a smouldering scene that’s suddenly shattered into gnarled fragments when the drop lands. An overwhelming bass riff scuffs across the blistering breakbeats to create a thunderous groove. Instant riot material, this has been tried and tested by Andy C since the summer, each airing causing unparalleled commotion in its wake.

‘Operation Ivy’ complements the carnage perfectly. A jittering, snake-like roller with deep funk coded into every element, everything about this pristine precision piece is designed to get the floor wriggling. From the crisp digi slap bass to the strident, spacious drum dynamics and textured rhythmic stabs, this is an impeccable example of how measured and meticulous drum & bass production standards are when they’re in the right hands.

Two outstanding cuts from one of the scene’s most forward-thinking, accomplished acts, two representations of how far-reaching and creative drum & bass can be: June Miller have an incredible year ahead of them. And it starts right here.

Bringing a close to their four track ‘Transformation’ EP, Mind Vortex have made a welcome comeback for 2017. Since the beginning, they’ve etched a path for themselves which has woven itself around countless radio plays by tastemakers and Djing slots across the worldwide club circuit. It’s their expertly engineered cuts which have made them so notorious for imposing dancefloor annihilation, with a diverse back catalogue standing as a testament to this.

Alongside ‘Shall We Begin’, your first introduction to the ‘Transformation EP’, next single ‘The Day After’ and slamming rework ‘Future Fold VIP’, ‘Transformation’ ties together a four-track offering which has been anticipated since it was revealed. Time and time again, Mind Vortex have ensured they stay at the pinnacle of their game, with title-track ‘Transformation’ once more raising the bar. Finding a place within the revered home of Ram Records, Mind Vortex present another formidable output.

Coming at you with flickering, sonic beats and a bassline which begins to methodically switch into gear, ‘Transformation’ proves its dancefloor appeal and the incredible manufacturing of their track intros. Punching forward on surging drum patterns and terrifying flicks of twisting LFO, each seismic crash of bass pushes you further into the mix. Mind Vortex create yet another set opener, a promising start to festival season for any drum & bass lover – the track ebbs and flows between an epic crescendo, before gearing up for another climatic breakdown. Mind Vortex demonstrate why they’ve become an integral part of the Ram Records’ roster, pushing harder and harder with every release.

The soundscape available to Mind Vortex is a versatile one. However, the ‘Transformation’ EP ties in four undeniably cutting tracks which pedestal their filthier underbelly. It’s this signature which has made them a staple on line ups across the globe. And they’ll continue to reign supreme on the dancefloors for years to come, with new music still waiting on the horizon.

Completing their four-track digital EP, Mind Vortex have delivered a smashing VIP mix of dancefloor record Future Fold VIP. Having toured extensively last year, across Europe and beyond, they’ve returned in 2017 with a set of brand new releases to push them even further onto the map.

Throughout festival season, Future Fold was already doing damage, a certified set opener and helping to ignite crowds of thousands across the circuit. Released on Ram 200, a definitive release on the imprint’s discography, it became one of the most recognisable tunes Mind vortex have dropped in recent years. With summer quickly approaching, the VIP treatment is sure to follow suit, becoming another damaging part of the duo’s discography.

A snapping succession of beats and booming bass patterns drag you headfirst into their mix, with their tell-tale driving bassline once again taking hold. With the original being a masterclass in high energy drum & bass, its VIP follows the same vibe. Drawing out on a darker intro, its smashing kicks mimics the original whilst buzzing LFO leads into its drop, adding to a more bass driven hook. Mind Vortex once again showcase why they’re kings of the dancefloor.

Built for the rave and forthcoming on Ram Records, Andy C’s ‘What Bass’ has been roadtested during his 13 week XOYO residency, and was given its first radio play on his Beats 1 show on Friday night. This dancefloor-ready cut is the first new music from Andy C since 2016’s ‘New Era’, and will precede a new single for Atlantic Records later this year.

With over 40 awards to date, Andy C’s career has been nothing short of a phenomenon. He’s sold-out Alexandra Palace and Brixton Academy with his own solo shows, played headline slots at the world’s greatest festivals including Creamfields, Glastonbury, EDC, and SW4, and released a string of phenomenal crossover anthems like ‘Heartbeat Loud’ and club tracks like ‘New Era’. He’s also the go-to remixer for the likes of Major Lazer, Sigala, London Grammar and beyond, and the d&b figure recently chosen to host the first drum & bass radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1, broadcast to over 100 countries.

As the owner and figurehead for Ram Records, which celebrates 25 years in 2017, Andy’s nurtured and developed huge headline artists such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson and Sub Focus, turning it into one of the world’s most respected independent operations across recordings and now festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Creamfields, and SW4 where Ram have hosted their own arenas and stages.

Andy’s main signature motif as a DJ is that he’s guaranteed to be packing tracks that no other DJ has. Hunting, digging, searching and signing: he is constantly immersed in new music. Not only does this ensure a wholly unique experience when you see him live, but it also gives Ram Records a front row seat when it comes to spotting new artists… As the likes of Loadstar, Wilkinson, Calyx & TeeBee, Frankee, Delta Heavy, Culture Shock, DC Breaks, Hamilton, Mind Vortex, Chords and many more can happily confirm.

On 31 March, Andy will complete his 13 week residency run at XOYO. The first d&b artist chosen by the renowned London club, tickets for his entire residency sold out far in advance. The Friday night run has allowed Andy to nurture a weekly crowd on a par with his legendary sets at The End, bringing together older heads and d&b’s new converts together under one roof.

Summer 2017 festival dates include Lovebox, Let it Roll festival, Snowbombing, Lost & Found, Wild Life, Parklife, Dour Festival, Nu Forms, Boardmasters, Dreambeach, Innovation in the Sun, Tomorrowland, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival, Bestival, Middlelands and many more to be announced.

After a year-long hiatus, Mind Vortex return with brand new sonic cut ‘Shall We Begin’, a track that’s been played out across the club circuit repeatedly throughout the last six months and marks the start of their four track digital EP. Well known for creating dancefloor anthems which have opened sets for some of the scene’s biggest players, including Ram Records label head Andy C, Mind Vortex have once again delivered another climatic cut for the imprint.
Having dominated both the Beatport drum & bass and Radio1xtra’s charts with their subsequent releases, they’ve received support from the likes of tastemakers Zane Lowe, Mistajam, Grovverider, Bailey, Crissy Criss and DJ Hype. They’ve also become just as notorious behind the decks, making weekly DJ appearances across Europe, Australia and the US, pushing their sound into every corner of the globe. The track will also be aired as an exclusive on Andy C’s first Beats1 show debuting on 13th January.
‘Shall We Begin’ rolls out in a typical fashion, moving forward on a cinematic intro with robotic vocal samples giving you a foreboding glimpse into the direction Mind Vortex are taking you. Suddenly you’re pulled through hard-hitting beats and a rampant bassline, intermittently grinding into every drop, with crunching snare adding to the track’s weightiness. Mind Vortex doesn’t disappoint, with a comeback sure to resonate across both new and old audiences. 2017 is looking to be another ground-breaking year for the producers, with the subsequent three parts of this EP forthcoming over the next few months.

In celebration of the festive times Instinkt have gifted the world with more tunes to tantalise the ear drums. ‘Hot Spot’ a spirited mix of neurofunk parades their scholastic ability to tackle many genres. Originating from Mannheim, Germany Rune & Kaiza seem to have techno in their souls but Drum and Bass in their hearts, which is playfully and skilfully heard through-out their production.

Lifestyle and Instinkt came together in the heat of 2015 with their debut track ‘Plymouth’ a stimulating part of the ‘L’ compilation LP. The growing tradition of an Xmas release is on the back of the huge success of last years ‘Focus EP’ with bangers such as Instinkt & Tomtek ‘Levitate’, which was globally recognised and endorsed by peers such as Zero T, Volatile Cycle, Optiv, Mind Vortex and many more. ‘Hot Spot’ will without doubt heat up these cold and dark nights.

Akrom – Genoma [Red Light Records]

Release date: 11 April 2016

Akrom, and Red Light Records, bring you the Invictus EP. Akrom hails from Modena, Italy, and has been involved in drum & bass music since the early 2000s. First as a raver, then a DJ, and latterly as a producer (first under the name Moon, and now Akrom), his first successes came via fellow Italian Maztek’s Subculture Music label.

Placing fourth in the BHK Samples – NeurofunkGrid contest with Egotopia in 2014 laid the foundation for his breakthrough year last year, which involved exposure on the Neurofunk Grid Youtube channel, and support from names like Mind Vortex, Chris.SU, June Miller, Mob Tactics, and of course Optiv, whose Red Light label provides a home for the new four track Invictus EP.

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for and the build up around this release has been intense. But the wait is finally over… Ram Records is proud to release the seminal RAM200! And this catalogue number marks an incredible feat. Achieving 200 releases on the world’s most coveted and beloved D&B record label. Compiling 5 absolute masterpieces in production, carefully hand picked to deliver full devastation upon dancefloors worldwide, RAM200 is the must have release from this year!

The curtain is finally pulled back to reveal ‘Piano Dark (Original Dub)’ by Culture Shock. Much sought after by many, it’s ready to be unleashed upon the masses. ‘Future Fold’ by Mind Vortex deploys full on dancefloor carnage, championed again by The Executioner himself, it is a masterclass in high energy D&B, set to cause even more destruction in the hands of masses. Next up is the Audio remix of ‘Robots and Romans.’ An even darker take on the track reels you in for a barrage of razor sharp drums and twisted bass sound design, giving guaranteed maximum bass weight in the dance! Diving back into the dark, gritty tech step days of the early 2000’s, Inside Info steps in to deliver his remix of the incredible anthem ‘The Truth’ by Kryptic Minds. Distorted, sharp reese basses cut through the fray, delivering an onslaught of stomping, weighty drum hits and low sub grit. Finally, a VIP mix of Rene LaVice’s track ‘The Calling’ feat Ivy Mairi rounds up the release, giving a fresh, different take on the original.

Diving deep into the Ram dubplate collection, RAM200 delivers an across the board, cutting edge blend of all D&B flavours. Proving with every release that Ram is always at the top of its game, this release is no exception and is the perfect celebration of an incredible 200 release. With ADE looming on the horizon, it only seemed apt for Ram to yet again provide the perfect drum and bass entrée for Europe’s premium dance event. Set to bring another stellar line up from their roster, this compilation packed full of exclusives helps to epitomise the imprint’s legacy within dance music. Including brand new cuts, demonstrating the Ram’s longevity, this album plays homage to two decades of output.

Leading you deeper into the dark side of 2015, this year’s Ramsterdam compilation not only pedestals the artists who’ve made such a titanic impact throughout the last ten months, but also the emerging talent from sister label Program and Ram’s newest signees. Whether it’s the old school, growling riddim from Aggressor Bunx, or Calyx & TeeBee’s tell-tale, trembling bassline, each track gives the album a unique vantage point.

Featuring on the collosal track listing is Delta Heavy; an exclusive which relays their elevating, pumping composition, it’s a dancefloor banger sure to detonate any crowd. And Frankee also makes a welcomed return, following the release of his anticipated single ‘Downtown’. ‘Raptor’ is unforgiving, snapped up by different animalistic samples and stridently aggressive – pedestalling Frankee’s unforgiving production standards.

On a totally different vibe, Freek is back with ‘Born Different’, a clanking yet powerful number, one which gears up into LFO-lead chaos with snapping percussion between each break. Brand new music from production outfits Teddy Killerz and Mind Vortex also make a very valuable addition, proving their unbridled talent, with merciless yet complex records that are fierce and gagging to be let loose on Amsterdam’s clubs.

Two of this year’s most resounding tracks from the Ram camp, Bensley’s ‘Aftermath’ and Gerra & Stone’s ‘L.I.E.S.’ have also received revamps, providing two anticipated VIPs already igniting sets worldwide. Loadstar also deliver the goods; brand new heavy-hitter ‘Dune’ demonstrates exactly why they’ve become such revered names across the genre.

So, here’s to another Amsterdam Dance Event. One with a soundtrack provided by one of the most enduring labels, and stellar rosters, that dance music has played host to. And with Ram also holding a night this October, from first listen onwards prepare to be immerse yourself in Ram’s vast musical environment.
