Whiney – November

Buy or stream ‘Bubblers Part One’ here: https://Whiney.lnk.to/bubblerspartoneyb

Then one of Med School’s youngest ever signings with his compilation feature ‘No More’, drum & bass head turner Whiney has stepped up to the plate for his first solo release since officially joining the Hospital Records roster. Reputable for supplying heavy duty sonics, ‘Bubblers Part One’ is a supreme development of the 25-year old’s highly sought signature sound. Home to four fresh cuts marking the start of his trailblazing new three-part ‘Bubblers’ series, Whiney’s latest EP proves he’s got the technique and flair to be a lead player in the scene.

Jungle-infused gritty stepper ‘No Good’ gets things rolling with old-school soundscapes and a captivating R&B style vocal. A fierce ascending bassline accompanied by raw breaks and crisp percussion hits explode into play, setting the track up to be a future classic that continues to carry the foundations of drum & bass into the sounds of today.

Featuring the vocals of mic veteran MC GQ, ‘Guernsey Airport Bubbler’ is straight-talking and deadly. Written in the lounge of Guernsey Airport amidst his busy touring schedule pre-lockdown, this quirky heavy hitter comes close to being a textbook audible representation of a true bubbler.

Minimal sounding and darker in vibe, ‘Black Ice’ offers a copious amount of distorted swells, a throbbing sub line and snappy drums which keep the tune swinging throughout. Icey by name but extremely hot in nature – proceed with caution! ‘November’ rounds off the EP as it draws closer to Whiney’s trip-hop and future bass oriented inspirations. Thumping kick drums, high pitched vocal chops and dreamy synth work are projected into a glistening beacon showcasing the far reaching ability of his skill as a creator.

With an impressive collection of releases under his belt on the recently closed Med School imprint, including ‘Stop The Clock / Breadcrumbs (feat. BOP)’, his ‘Waystone’ LP and debut album ‘Talisman’, it’s now time for Whiney to officially join the Hospital Records roster with his first solo release on the label as he continues to pave his way to becoming one of the most respected artists within drum & bass.

Unglued – Datafile

Buy or stream ‘Zen’ here: https://Unglued.lnk.to/Zenyc

Unglued’s reputation for producing serious bassweight across the D+B spectrum continues in 2020 with his ‘Zen’ EP. He spans through silky smooth sounds on ‘Zen’ ft. Cimone, bouncy funk on ‘Mic Strangler’ with the legendary MC GQ, sharp-edged grizzle on GLXY collaboration ‘Algorithm’, and tearout heat on the soundsystem slayer ‘Datafile’.

Setting things in motion is the lyrical weapon ‘Mic Strangler’, with OG host and MC extraordinaire GQ, who’s spent three decades leading the game. Unglued deals out damage on the beat with MC GQ’s playful twists, wrapped up in a big bruiser of a bassline.

Title track ‘Zen’ is a mesmeric stream of atmospherics, rolled out in perfect tandem with the angelic vocals of rising singer/songwriter, Cimone. GLXY joins the fold for ‘Algorithm’ – a techy rattler that’s stripped back in design but packs a punch. Rounding off the EP is the darkest addition, ‘Datafile’, Unglued takes no prisoners as he unleashes this lethal stepper.

Unglued has had a steep and steady rise in drum & bass after signing to Hospital Records and releasing his sought after solo material, as well as his iconic remix of High Contrast’s anthem ‘If We Ever’. This infamous rewiring caught the attention of major players, from Andy C to Annie Mac – who also selected his track ‘Born In ‘94’ as her Hottest Record in 2019 on BBC Radio 1.

Unglued’s jungle knowledge has him in regular international demand, in 2019 alone he tore up sets at Glastonbury, Rampage, Boomtown, Let It Roll, ADE and on Med School’s final tour across Australia and New Zealand. He’s showing no signs of slowing down in 2020 with back-to-back bookings, including support at Wilkinson’s London headline show, Kings Of The Rollers’ Printworks Royal Rumble showdown and Hospitality On The Beach 2020.

S.P.Y – Dreamcatcher

Buy or Stream here! S.P.Y.lnk.to/DubplateStyleso

Since the release of his last long-player, S.P.Y has been digging through the crates – rediscovering his love for all things jungle, hardcore and breakbeat. He began his ‘Dubplate Style’ journey in 2018, paying homage to original jungle culture and kitting out two studios with vintage synths and sequencers to recreate that authentic jungle feel. Across fifteen heavyweight tracks he’s put a fresh twist on the music that originally brought him into the world of drum & bass.

Kicking things straight into gear is the stripped back stealthy banger ‘After The Rain’ featuring the deep, grizzly tones of legendary MC GQ. Continuing the bassweight reign is the reggae-tipped ‘Runaway Dub’, plus ‘Whole In The Speaker’ that’s the ultimate throwback and new-school hybrid with a unique hardcore edge that calls back to raves from across the eras. S.P.Y mixes up the tempos with the nostalgic ‘See Your Face Again’, complete with uplifting vocals and rave piano. This future summer classic has all the right components to soundtrack the sunshine.

After being inspired by the rich history of labels like Moving Shadow, V Recordings, Good Looking, Full Cycle, XL, Formation, Dread, amongst many others, S.P.Y proudly presents the jungle sounds of past, present and future in his ‘Dubplate Style’ LP.

Expect all speeds and styles, available as a stunning limited edition ‘Dubplate Style’ Box Set, pearl white vinyl sealed away into premium quality foil blocked casing, with a superb luxury jet black finish.

S.P.Y – After The Rain (feat. MC GQ)

Buy or stream ‘S.P.Y – Dubplate Style’ here: http://S.P.Y.lnk.to/DubplateStyleyb

Danny Byrd – Starting It Over (feat. Hannah Symons) [Turno Remix]

Buy or stream ‘Starting It Over (feat. Hannah Symons) here: https://DannyByrd.lnk.to/StartingItOveryb

Taken from Danny Byrd’s latest whirlwind funk adventure ‘Atomic Funk’ is ’Starting It Over’ (ft. Hannah Symons); a formidable blend of rugged jungle flavours running in unison with gorgeous silky soul and R&B style vocals. The original has been kicked into overdrive by none other than Turno, who Danny Byrd himself states “…is the man of the moment – he’s turned this old school jungle roller into something loud and tearing for 2019!”

Danny Byrd returned after a five year hiatus with his huge album ‘Atomic Funk’ that includes previous singles ‘Devil’s Drop’, ‘Holy Star’, ‘Hold Up The Crown’ and ‘Salute’ ft MC GQ. He’s garnered huge support from BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac and MistaJam, as well as securing his own BBC Radio 1 Residency monthly slot, representing drum & bass across the airwaves. Danny Byrd continues his worldwide tour in 2019, after venturing across the UK, Europe, USA, China, Australia and New Zealand.
