French President Emmanuel Macron attends a memorial service in Les Sables d’Olonne to pay tribute to the three lifeboat volunteers who died when their vessel capsized last week during a storm. They were posthumously awarded the Legion of Honour, and the four surviving crew members also received France’s highest civilian honour. IMAGES

D-Day switchboard girl has one last message | AFP

Marie Scott vividly recalls the horrifying sound of D-Day as she relayed orders down the line to the troops storming the Normandy beaches. Now she has been awarded the Legion of Honour, France’s highest order of merit, and will be invested into the order on Wednesday 5 June 2019, the day before the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
