How to Bring Athletes Back to Campus | AP Top 25 Podcast | Associated Press

The first steps toward having a college football season are being taken on campuses all over the country. Athletes are being allowed to return to their teams’ facilities for voluntary workouts throughout June. That means schools and specifically athletic departments are trying to execute detailed plans for testing, monitoring and educating athletes on how to get some prep work in for the season while staying safe during a pandemic. Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades joins AP’s Ralph Russo to discuss the Bears’ plans to “on-board” football players, starting June 15. It covers a lot of ground and if it doesn’t go well, it could setback efforts to play ball come Labor Day weekend.

Nike Probably Doesn’t Mind If Angry White Dudes Burn Their Shoes (HBO)

Over the Labor Day weekend, some people chose to exercise their rights as Americans to burn their shoes.

They uploaded videos and images of themselves destroying their own Nike products to protest Nike’s new campaign, which features the face of Colin Kaepernick and the caption, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

The ad references Kaepernick’s choice to kneel during the pregame national anthem in protest of police treatment of minorities — a protest that, according to multiple polls, most Americans don’t approve of. So why would a company as big as Nike want to sacrifice a big chunk of their customer base for politics?

In short, because it’s not politics. It’s business. And Nike is gambling that the people who are angry about the ad won’t affect their bottom line much.

“I think Nike is very okay with losing those people as customers,” says Ian Schafer, founder and former CEO of Deep Focus, which has worked with Nike in the past.

Bury Bad News: FBI releases Clinton email probe just before Labor Day weekend

Russia has been blamed for a number of recent hacks in the US. Media outlets also claim Moscow targeted electoral systems in at least two American states. However, little evidence has been given – with only ‘anonymous FBI workers’ cited as evidence, while the FBI hasn’t officially mentioned Russia.

The FBI has now released the findings of its investigation into the Hillary Clinton email scandal. However the timing of the report has sparked criticism. It was made public on Friday, just before the Labor Day Weekend, with some commentators noting it’s a convenient time to bury bad news.
