Since inception in 2010, Skankandbass has unearthed some of the freshest talents in the scene and has opened many doors for unsigned artists. Now, six years in to the game, Skankandbass decides to take on the role of a record label to put together a series of free download singles which aims to further help spread the work of the best unsigned, newcomer artists who deserve more recognition.

Billain – Safety Hatch [Underslung Audio]

Out on the 16th of February 2015.

“If Billain’s creative assault continues the trajectory it’s on now, we may be discussing his art in hundreds of years to come. A true individual with humbling past and an exciting future beyond his musical roots.” – UKF

Having launched into 2015 with an impressive outing on Skrillex’s Owsla imprint, with a remix of Koan Sound’s ‘Tetsuo’s Redemption’ and the mind-shattering video that went with it, which quickly went into tens of thousands of views; Billain is on strong form, following up with this mighty single release of ‘Safety Hatch’ on Underslung Audio.

With the kind of heart-pounding intro and build-up that Billain is known for, the track quickly accelerates into future rave territory with a frenetic acid-influenced bassline that’s destined to churn the dance into a skanking pit of madness. The track can almost be considered a roller in relation to his other work, but one that still relentlessly builds both pressure and pulse. ‘Safety Hatch’ is the gnarly product of a restless producer, whose constant experimentation and unique aesthetic has been tried and tested at parties over the world – guaranteed to send the ravers wild.

Joe Ford – Unsafe [Caliber Music]

Purchase: Sept. 2nd, 2013
► bit.ly/CaliberBP

Joe Ford returns to the family with a monstrous release on Caliber Music, via his ‘Mission’ EP. This 21 year old producer – who released his debut EP on Ammunition Recordings almost 2 years ago – has seen massive success over the last 12 months, quickly becoming one of the hottest names in Drum & Bass, Neurohop, Dubstep, and beyond.

In his latest offering on Caliber, Joe Ford experiments with a range of vibes over five tracks on the EP. Kicking off with tunes like ‘Mission’ and ‘Combine,’ Ford continues to impress in whatever style he chooses to take on. Joe’s close attention to detail and Neurofunk bassline mastery collide with tear-out breakbeat vibes to make a uniquely lethal combo.

Taking things into more relaxed and lush territory over the next two, ‘Moving On’ and ‘Majesty’, showcase a more sentimental side to the producer… about as restrained as you’ll hear from him.

Joe Ford closes the release out with a big room dubstep floor smasher, ‘Unsafe’. Like he so easily did with the Glitch-Hop format, Joe Ford brings his signature neuro vibe to Dubstep and Breaks. With ‘Mission’ receiving support from some of the most respected artists within bass music, ranging from KOAN Sound to Reso, we’re excited to see what the future holds for this incredibly talented producer.

► SUPPORT

“Joe Ford’s tunes have been making their way into every BPM section of our sets for a while now; it’s great to see such a diverse representation of his sound in a single package here. Proper stuff – this guy knows wassup!” – KOAN Sound

“Sweet jesus in his holy sky Joe Ford is next level.” – Reso

V/A — ‘Sub 150’
Dubstep, drumstep and the bass between – Released 26.03.2012 on Hospital Records

Ramping the sub-bass up and easing the tempo down, “Sub 150” is the
brand new download compilation from Hospital Records. Expect dubstep,
drumstep and everything in between in this immense 20-track offering
as “Sub 150” delves into the medical records of releases past and
recruits fresh blood for releases future. Known primarily as a
drum+bass label, there have always been a plethora of other genres and
styles on offer on the Hospital, with releases extending deep and wide
into what has become known more recently as “bass music”, from some of
the pioneers of what has become known as “dubstep” (the likes of
Phuturistix and Darqwan), to the more recent alternative offerings
from big guns Netsky, Logistics and Camo & Krooked.

Featuring signed Hospital artists, our extended Med School family,
along with other likeminded names — Blokhe4d, N3gus, Randomer,
Martsman and CLS and newcomers such as Other Echoes (Nu:Tone and
Logistics’s youngest brother no less!) – flavours are varied,
exciting and always unique.

“Sub 150” starts with Blokhe4d’s refined, and yet punishing monster
“Zelda” and takes us on a journey under the 150bpm radar where we
encounter such gems as Darqwan’s “Three Note Blue” which oozes class,
the infamous Barbarix remix of Mistabishi’s – “Printer Jam” and
another Mistabishi classic — “White Collar Grime” — is brought out
from the vaults. Bristol based N3gus steps up with Carasel for the
MC’s first ever recording on the rambunctious, in your face “Snakes”.
The Guardian’s “Band of the week” Submerse brings the classic garage
flavours with his superb “This Time You’re Wrong”, while Other Echoes,
the youngest of the Gresham brothers, makes his debut on Hospital with
spaced out dubstep riddim “Quantum Spectrum (feat. Tim Parker)”.

Proving there’s always been more to Hospital than meets the eye, this
collection of past and present hits plunges below the 150bpm mark.
Prepare to be immersed.
