Journalist Juan Manuel Jimenez was attacked in Mexico City as he reported on the ‘glitter protest’. Women shouted at him and threw glitter into his face. Another woman yelled: “Yo si te creo” meaning “I believe you,” mocking the media.
Jimenez was then punched in the face by a man in a blue baseball cap, knocking him unconscious. Following the attack, the reporter tweeted: “Violence will always be unacceptable.”
The protests began after two teenage girls accused police officers of rape. Marchers also doused the city’s police chief in pink glitter.
