Interview with Help Musicians UK (Music Minds Matter)

Help Musicians UK is the leading UK charity for professional musicians of all genres, from starting out through to retirement. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Music Minds Matter is a support line and service for the whole UK music community.

Buy or stream Apex ‘Echoes’ here: https://Apex.lnk.to/Echoesyb

Hospital are honoured to present the last known piece of new music from Rob Dickeson, aka Apex.

Released in his memory, in association with Help Musicians UK, all proceeds will go to their incredible work on the Music Minds Matter campaign. Available as a digital download, and limited-edition 12-inch vinyl, which features Unknown Error’s “The Yearning” (Super VIP mix), which is exclusive to the physical format.

Drum & bass has lost a number of unique talents in recent years, and we can only hope this release will be a positive force to raise awareness surrounding mental health issues within the music industry, and also as a fitting tribute to Rob’s memory.

“I hope that this record will raise awareness that help is out there. If you, or someone you love, finds themself in a situation where life just seems impossible, don’t forget that you are not alone, and that there is help.” – Katerina (Apex’s partner)

Inja x Pete Cannon – Intro

Buy/Stream: https://Inja.lnk.to/BlankPagesyb

Always seen with a smile on his face; Inja the poet, lyricist, storyteller and unparalleled master of ceremonies presents his debut album on Hospital Records. His first drum & bass focussed long-player ‘Blank Pages’ flexes his lyrical style with heartfelt sentiment, roughneck flows and quick-fire wordsmith wizardry. All partnered with heavyweight productions from Pete Cannon, Nu:Tone, Logistics, Serum, Whiney and Anile.

Inja’s back with partner-in-crime Pete Cannon on ‘War Games’. A funky bassline lays the foundations for this fear-fighting tale. As the breaks roll out Inja’s militant and deep rhetoric puts this track on a new level, with signature percussive flair from the sought after hip-hop beatmaker.

Inja’s spoken-word piece for Amnesty International ‘She Just Wanna Dance’ was a viral online hit in 2017. It’s now been given a turbo-charged re-work by Med School young-gun Whiney. Inja’s poignant commentary on the prolific problem of harassment in club culture sits atop a grimey half-time stepper that switches up into a lethal upfront roller.

Inja proves he can ‘juk’ any riddim in ‘Samurai’. Serum’s steppy beat and woofing bassline balances Inja’s story of the samurai; slicing through the tune like the lyrical sensei he is.

“Even with a white page and black ink, you can spell out more colour than the eye can see.” – Inja

Logistics – C.Lone

Buy or stream ‘Hologram’ here: https://Logistics.lnk.to/Hologramyb

Logistics, one of Hospital Records’ most prolific artists, is back with his seventh studio album ‘Hologram’. Inspired by his travels to Hong-Kong and New Zealand, this universally admired drum & bass figure presents a vibrant 16-track collection soaked in his signature groove, soul and liquid-funk stylings.

Opening track ‘Lotus Flower’ sets a warm springtime tone with fluttering harp-like arpeggios and atmospheric pads. ‘Broken Light’ follows on from the success that singer/songwriter Thomas Oliver brought on Logistics’ collaborative LP with brother Nu:Tone. A sombre tone matched with melancholic lyrics bring a blissful beat to the album.

Keeping true to the craft, ‘Chant’ flips to Logistics’ jungle style with molten-hot flair. A powerful punch of expertly sliced breaks and vocal stabs are the ingredients for this dancefloor weapon.

It’s safe to say that this has been worth the wait. Although titled from the ever-growing illusion of the digital-age, ‘Hologram’ is an example of Logistics’ very real talent and is a welcomed addition to his impressive repertoire of drum & bass classics. Quantity, quality and a fierce musical character is everything we have come to expect from this Hospital staple.
