Facing Jinx – Rest Assured (feat. Lavahi)

Buy or stream ‘Med School: Graduation’ here: https://www.HospitalRecords.lnk.to/MSGraduationyc

After thirteen years and over ninety releases, Med School has stacked the chairs and closed its doors. As a final farewell to the label, the ‘Med School: Graduation’ compilation celebrates the life of Hospital Records’ once sister label, as well as the musicians and culture that defined it, with 23 brand new tracks from label stalwarts such as Bop, Keeno, Etherwood and Whiney as well as the new blood that was always so important to the label’s experimental output.

In Med School fashion, the album brings together a myriad of drum & bass stylings and beyond. From the microfunk movements of Bop to Illexandra’s warped emergency warnings, Lakeway’s upfront grime beats to the unique electronic musings of Frederic Robinson, A.Fruit and Kimyan Law.

Representing the serene side of Med School is Etherwood’s ‘Nowhere To Go But Everywhere’, alongside beautiful contributions from Keeno, Natus and Polaris. The tribal infusions of Royalston’s stepper ‘Mark’s Shibari Groove’ and Lung’s techno-fused rabbit hole ‘Stop Crying’ switch up the pace to reflect the breadth of Med School’s outputs. The compilation also calls back to the very beginnings of the label with a special VIP treatment of S.P.Y’s first release in the Hospital camp, MEDIC1 ‘Black Flag’.

Whiney not only brings in his deep new stepper ‘Close To You’ but is also the man behind the continuous mix on the album, seamlessly bringing together all 23 tracks for one final salute to Med School Music.

“ Medschool was an amazing label for taking risks, from Syntax to The Erised and everything in between… Without risks and new talent we cannot grow. Without you believing in our risks and new talent we are nothing.” – London Elektricity

Kings Of The Rollers – Saturn’s Strings

Buy or stream ‘Hospitality House Party’ here: http://www.HospitalRecords.lnk.to/HospitalityHousePartyyc

The Hospital Records family are here to provide your much needed dose of fresh cuts from all corners of drum & bass in their ‘Hospitality House Party’ compilation. The annual summer album from the south-London based imprint provides a soundtrack for a time in our lives that has changed every one of us. From their homes to yours, their weekly virtual parties have allowed us to come together under the shared love for 174 beats per minute.

The album is packed with 32 brand new original tracks, collaborations and remixes to make sure that good vibes and even better music are in plentiful supply, featuring the likes of Camo & Krooked, Flava D, London Elektricity, S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Degs, Logistics and Makoto, seamlessly blended together by Nu:Tone on the continuous mix.

Delivering everything you’d expect plus more, Urbandawn’s ‘Carnival Blues’ is a nod to his eclectic musical background. The Sao Paulo-based sonic architect canvasses vibrations from around the world into an untestable drum & bass cruncher. Villem sets the compilation in motion with ‘We Had A Song’ ft Leo Wood, a 2020 cover of a classic by the progressive contemporary icons The Roots – “You Got Me”. Villem infuses drum & bass with neo soul and hip hop to create a sublime liquid bouncer drenched in moreish guitar riffs and comforting strings.

His first release since his seventh studio album, Hospital head-honcho London Elektricity has teamed up again with the Stockholm-based Bulgarian Goddess, providing stunning orchestral sounds in ‘Someone Once Gave Me A Melody’. Camo & Krooked meet Pola & Bryson on their official remix of ‘Turn Up (The Music)’. Incorporating the anthemic synth and vocal leads from the original, brisk breaks and growling basses flip the tune on its head turning it into a sub-heavy summer striker.

Embarking on an interplanetary journey through bass-ridden black holes, powerhouse trio Kings Of The Rollers have stepped up with ‘Saturn’s Strings’, plus ‘The Prophet’ which marks Voltage’s first solo release on Hospital Records. The compilation also sees an exciting release from dance music duo My Nu Leng as they join forces with Dread MC on ‘Worldwide’, a tearout destroyer that draws for system shaking basslines.

Whilst they won’t be able to unite the Hospital family and wider drum & bass community this summer, Hospital Records and Hospitality continue to supply the highest calibre of music, no matter what the circumstances.

Etherwood – Begin By Letting Go (Isolation Jam)

Buy or stream ‘Isolation Jams’ here: Etherwood.lnk.to/IsolationJamsyc

‘Isolation Jams’ is the beautifully stripped-back acoustic exploration from former Med School headliner, now Hospital Records sensation, Etherwood, created during our unexpected period of isolation in 2020. Known for his deeply soothing and uplifting drum & bass, Etherwood strikes heartstrings with six acoustic covers of his own well-loved D+B anthems, plus Wilkinson’s ‘Afterglow,’ in a series that came to life from his own home. This wonderfully unique seven-track release showcases Etherwood’s raw flair as a multi-talented artist, bringing his soulful vocals and meaningful lyrics to light.

‘Isolation Jams’ opens with a moving rendition of one of his most loved tracks to date, ‘Begin By Letting Go’ taken from his self-titled debut album in 2013. Heavily sustained guitar strings lead us in, remnant of the anticipation evoked in iconic tracks by Pink Floyd, one of Etherwood’s earliest influences. Spacey improvisation develops into arguably the most anthemic of Woody’s lighter-raising productions as we absorb his ethereal vocals and catchy guitar progressions, this 2020 acoustic rendition adds yet another layer of depth to this D+B ballad that has stood the test of time.

With his adaptation of ‘Afterglow’ Etherwood reimagines the original to create a poignant reflection of the times, with the slow tempo mirrors the sleepy pace of isolation. The lyrics, ‘even though the dancing’s done’, originally sung by the incredible Becky Hill, find new meaning in the colourful memories once shared and remind us of the healing power of musical experiences.

The EP draws warmly to a close with ‘Clouds’, pure, understated food for the soul. With a moving stripped-back, vocal lead from Phoebe Freya and moody guitar plucks. It’s clear that even when you peel back the drums, and the bass, Etherwood’s singer-songwriter talent shines through, laden with atmosphere and emotion.

With three successful albums under Etherwood’s belt, ‘Isolation Jams’ is an exciting new addition to his collection. His debut album ‘Etherwood’ gained support from a variety of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJs such as Annie Mac and MistaJam, and also saw club support from tastemakers such as Netsky and Sub Focus. Etherwood’s second album ‘Blue Leaves’ flew straight to the top of the iTunes Electronic chart, sparking two nominations in the Drum & Bass Awards: ‘Best Producer’ and ‘Best Album’. Etherwood is no stranger to the BBC Radio 1 playlist, featuring with tracks such as ‘Forest Fires’ his Fred V & Grafix collaboration and ‘Light My Way Home’ ft. Eva Lazarus. He also had the honour to perform his own live session at the iconic Maida Vale studios, and featured on Crissy Criss’s highly exclusive ‘Xtra Talent’ show on BBC Radio 1.

Whiney – No Good

Buy or stream ‘Bubblers Part One’ here: http://www.Whiney.lnk.to/bubblerspartoneyc

Then one of Med School’s youngest ever signings with his compilation feature ‘No More’, drum & bass head turner Whiney has stepped up to the plate for his first solo release since officially joining the Hospital Records roster. Reputable for supplying heavy duty sonics, ‘Bubblers Part One’ is a supreme development of the 25-year old’s highly sought signature sound. Home to four fresh cuts marking the start of his trailblazing new three-part ‘Bubblers’ series, Whiney’s latest EP proves he’s got the technique and flair to be a lead player in the scene.

Jungle-infused gritty stepper ‘No Good’ gets things rolling with old-school soundscapes and a captivating R&B style vocal. A fierce ascending bassline accompanied by raw breaks and crisp percussion hits explode into play, setting the track up to be a future classic that continues to carry the foundations of drum & bass into the sounds of today.

Featuring the vocals of mic veteran MC GQ, ‘Guernsey Airport Bubbler’ is straight-talking and deadly. Written in the lounge of Guernsey Airport amidst his busy touring schedule pre-lockdown, this quirky heavy hitter comes close to being a textbook audible representation of a true bubbler.

Minimal sounding and darker in vibe, ‘Black Ice’ offers a copious amount of distorted swells, a throbbing sub line and snappy drums which keep the tune swinging throughout. Icey by name but extremely hot in nature – proceed with caution! ‘November’ rounds off the EP as it draws closer to Whiney’s trip-hop and future bass oriented inspirations. Thumping kick drums, high pitched vocal chops and dreamy synth work are projected into a glistening beacon showcasing the far reaching ability of his skill as a creator.

With an impressive collection of releases under his belt on the recently closed Med School imprint, including ‘Stop The Clock / Breadcrumbs (feat. BOP)’, his ‘Waystone’ LP and debut album ‘Talisman’, it’s now time for Whiney to officially join the Hospital Records roster with his first solo release on the label as he continues to pave his way to becoming one of the most respected artists within drum & bass.

Bop x Subwave – Escape From U

Buy or stream ‘Dream On’ here: https://BopxSubwave.lnk.to/DreamOnyc

Esteemed Russian D+B producers Bop x Subwave are back with the second release under their new collaborative project. The four-track ‘Dream On’ EP is a perfect encapsulation of the pair’s style, seamlessly infusing their sounds to create a unique and refreshing project whereby the duo have once again tested the boundaries of D+B moving into the realms of garage and lo-fi jungle.

Kicking off the EP is ‘Higher Dimension’, a synthwave-infused D+B number with a dark twist. Dreamlike vocals drenched in reverb combined with nostalgic synths and an unforgiving bassline set the listener up for what’s to come. The minimal yet soulful ‘Escape From U’ follows, bringing crisp percussion and melancholic vibes to this sublime stepper.

‘Lo-Fi Romance’ leads the way for the second half of the EP. Airy pads and bare-bone breaks lay the foundations for this simple yet sophisticated liquid roller. Switching up the vibe yet staying true to the distinct Bop x Subwave sound, ‘Haze’ rounds off the EP, taking things down to 130BPM territory. A clear homage to the sounds of the UK underground with garage-influenced drums and a hard hitting sub.

After the success of their debut EP ‘Love & Other Drugs’ including a number 1 track in the Beatport Garage chart, appraisal from key electronic music publications such as DJ Mag and Resident Advisor as well as radio support across BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM and Reprezent, it’s set to be a huge year for the duo project.

Keeno – Equinox

Buy or stream ‘Fall Beneath You / Equinox’ here: https://www.keeno.lnk.to/fallbeneatheyouequinoxyc

The classically trained, multi-instrumentalist marvel Keeno is back with a slice of freshly cut sonics to continue his release streak on Hospital Records since officially moving over from Med School in 2020. ‘Fall Beneath You (feat. Etherwood)’ and ‘Equinox’ are a divine showcase of his unique approach to drum & bass, whereby his musical and technical abilities combine to create an unmatched sound like no other.

Featuring the elevating vocals of fellow Hospital extraordinaire Etherwood, the orchestral motifs of Keeno’s style shine through in ‘Fall Beneath You’. Stunning piano chord progressions lead the way, accompanied by warming strings and polished breaks to take the listener on a cinematic journey across the ever expanding world of drum & bass.

An eminent champion of classically infused drum & bass, it goes without saying that Keeno’s capability to draw for grittier numbers in the studio continues to be valued just as highly. Flipping over to the B-side, ‘Equinox’ offers a symphonious introduction through immersive brass melodies and a delicate sprinkling of reverberated vocal slices, before a rippling reese bass and punch-packed drums thrust into play.

Aside from his diverse productions and majestic discography including releases such as ‘Troopers Peak / Old School Lane’, his albums ‘All The Shimmering Things’ and, ‘Life Cycle’ and the ‘Nocturne’ EP, Keeno’s contributions to the drum & bass scene also include his self-hosted Bristol Mix Series which has cemented him further as an esteemed producer, DJ and tastemaker. With support for his music spanning from a Self-Certified Selection from BBC Radio 1’s MistaJam, Rene LaVice and Andi Durrant to electronic dance music topliner Don Diablo, the far-reaching appeal for the sounds of Keeno’s show shows no sign of slowing down.

Mitekiss – Tonic

Buy or steam ‘Object To Push’ here:
https://www.Mitekiss.lnk.to/objectstopushyc

Since the release of his debut album ‘Crate Six Seven’, that received support from liquid pioneers Technimatic, Makoto, Etherwood and BCee, Mitekiss has been cooking up his latest venture with Hospital Records, the ‘Objects To Push’ EP. Consisting of four sublime tracks that explore the soulful, deeper domains of drum & bass. The musicality and versatility of Mitekiss’ production are brought to light once more, drawing for his love of jazz, disco and 174 beats.

‘Matter (feat. Vonné)’ eases in with elegant melodies, soothing piano flourishes and the eloquent vocal hooks of London based singer-songwriter Vonné. Named after dark matter, “which represents the lyrics ‘gravity pulling me under’”, explains Mitekiss. Smooth liquid-jazz bubbler ‘Tonic’ follows, as hypnotising pads and sophisticated piano licks rest delicately upon a blues-style upright bassline and rolling breakbeats.

Teaming up with Bristol’s Ruth Royall, ‘Magic’ adds a touch of undeniable euphoria to the EP. A classic feel-good drum & bass anthem that pays homage to Mitekiss’ love for all things uplifting and heartfelt. Last but certainly not least, ‘Charter’ brings the EP to a close. Darker, spellbinding atmospherics and hard hitting bass stabs are a clear demonstration of the depths of the EP.

With ‘Objects To Push’ Mitekiss has continued to develop his soulful, liquid-jazz sound, further cementing his unique standing in drum & bass territory. The successes of his contributions to the scene include his regular ‘Mitekast’ podcast and weekly ‘Rhythm Roulette’ tutorial series, as well as releases on Shogun Audio, Skankandbass and his own imprint Goldfat Records, that have seen Mitekiss appraised as a producer’s producer who is here to stay.

Metrik enlists label-mate Grafix for the drum & bass / rock hybrid ‘Parallel’, where the pair demonstrate their unrivalled production mastery through uplifting melodies and an anthemic hook.

GLXY x Degs – Young Hearts (Official Lyric Video)

From Degs and GLXY – ““Young Hearts” is out now on our Bandcamp. We created it to shine a light on the racial injustices still occurring not only in the UK, but across the world. We’ll be donating 100% of our share to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust. The track is £1, but you can donate more if you wish.”

Available now on Bandcamp:
https://degsmusic.bandcamp.com/album/young-hearts
https://glxymvsic.bandcamp.com/releases

Lyrics:

When young hearts are broken unsure where to turn to
Just judged on complexion or subject to curfews
We’re put in this box callous terms they refer to
These riots they prove people hate feeling worthless
At least this discussion has come to the surface

I’m asking for your ears, young black minds yeah they’re asking for your ears
There’s the trauma in our lives we never asked for all these tears
Being stopped and searched for nothing adds a complex to your fears
I’m lying awake at night these memories they’re printed here
Recounting all these incidents when we’re treated like some dissidents it’s fucked
Cos most of us we’re full of love
And only want these opportunities to finally rise above
But man the house it always wins so yeah it’s hard to make the cut
I’m tryna analyse whilst smokin’ blunts, I’m tryna make my mum proud of her son
I’m tryna put aside all of these barriers with focus and with stamina
And show the fuckin’ people we belong cos we no longer have to run
The movement yeah it’s strong protect our daughters and our sons
Educating in the present before the future has begun
Before the future has begun

When young hearts are broken unsure where to turn to
Just judged on complexion or subject to curfews
We’re put in this box callous terms they refer to
These riots they prove people hate feeling worthless
At least this discussion has come to the surface

When young hearts are broken unsure where to turn to
Just judged on complexion or subject to curfews
We’re put in this box callous terms they refer to

I’m asking for your strength, young black souls yeah they’re asking for your strength
If you sat and heard the stories yeah it’s hard to comprehend
If I wanted to be candid I could write these with my pen
But this ain’t about myself, yeah this issue it transcends
My heart is always open for the people I defend and yeah that’s white or black or anyone Come see this through our lens
It’s never picture perfect the exposure can offend
But the ones who act like that would rather turn and then pretend
That these problems don’t exist? Or that they’re thought up in our heads?
How can one be so offensive? I hope this thinking doesn’t spread
Shows the battle’s far from done
I’m hoping for a day where humans merge all into one
Walk together in the sun
Instead of fighting in the rain
The fact that there’s division drives so many minds insane
Why can’t we all just live our lives on equal plains?
Instead of wondering if the hate will come again, cos we’re tired of all this pain

Yeah we’re tired of all this pain

When young hearts are broken unsure where to turn to
Just judged on complexion or subject to curfews
We’re put in this box callous terms they refer to
These riots they prove people hate feeling worthless
At least this discussion has come to the surface

Keeno – Fall Beneath You (feat. Etherwood) Official Video

Buy or stream ‘Fall Beneath You / Equinox’ here: https://Keeno.lnk.to/fallbeneatheyouequinoxyc

Whiney – Guernsey Airport Bubbler (feat. MC GQ) Official Video

Buy or stream ‘Bubbles Part One’ here: https://www.Whiney.lnk.to/bubblerspartoneyc

Metrik’s highly anticipated third album ‘Ex-Machina’, on Hospital Records, is an exhilarating and flawlessly executed evolution of his unique sonic identity, filled with high-octane drum & bass frequencies and first-class dancefloor tear-ups. ‘Ex-Machina’ continues to elevate Metrik’s sound to new heights with his own vocals and songwriting taking centre stage throughout the 13-track LP, also welcoming features from Grafix and ShockOne. After 10 years shaping the face of dancefloor D+B through his technical precision and immaculate mixdowns, Metrik is firmly established by fans and peers alike as one of the most highly respected producers in the game.

The album opens with ‘Automata’ – this techy bruiser triangulates meaty basslines, crunchy riffs and melodic highs. Metrik enlists label-mate Grafix for the drum & bass / rock hybrid ‘Parallel’, where the pair demonstrate their unrivalled production mastery through uplifting melodies and an anthemic hook.

Metrik has teamed up with Australian bass music titan ShockOne on ‘Dying Light’ which sees euphoric vocal hooks sung by Metrik himself complete with an electrifying bassline, destined to power up sound systems worldwide. The album also includes his previous singles ‘Hackers’, ‘We Are The Energy’ and ‘Gravity’ that saw him packing out dancefloors during his tours across the US, Europe and Australasia.

Having firmly established his dancefloor sound on an international scale, Metrik’s heavyweight drum & bass prowess sees support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, MistaJam and Rene LaVice. His powerful anthems have been spun by D+B legends such as Andy C, Sub Focus, Friction, Culture Shock and more, across clubs and airwaves worldwide. Metrik is previously known for his popular solo works ‘Want My Love’, ‘Fatso’, ‘We Got It’ and ‘Chasing Sunrise’, as well as his collaborative remix with D+B high flyer Wilkinson of ‘I Need’, that reached the BBC Radio 1 playlist in 2019.

Having also previously held the esteemed role of BBC Radio 1’s year-long residency host, Metrik is no stranger to holding his own on the airwaves, and can be found during isolation hosting his own weekly ‘Ex Machina Sessions’ live and direct from his studio where the album was created.

Hugh Hardie – Day 6: Bending Light (feat. Pola & Bryson)

Buy or stream ‘7 Tunes In 7 Days’ here: http://www.HughHardie.lnk.to/7Daysyc

Following his widely appraised ‘Shadows and Silhouettes’ LP, Hugh Hardie’s latest offering is his most unique to date. During isolation, the Bristol-based producer set himself a challenge to write a new track from scratch every day for 7 days birthing the ‘7 Tunes In 7 Days’ project. For what would be a daunting process for many creatives, Hugh explained that the time limit “made it impossible to procrastinate or overthink decisions” – allowing his ideas to come to fruition more fluidly. Continuing to showcase his sonic diversity, ‘7 Tunes In 7 Days’ is home to soulful liquid funk, sub-heavy new wave jungle and minimal yet deep drum & bass bangers.

Setting the bar high from the offset, the week began with the creation of ‘Back & Forth’ which sees melancholic arpeggios and captivating pad hits rest delicately above signature rolling breakbeats. The EP varies between old school jungle influences on ‘Klaxon’ and soothing vocal chops contrasting coherently with gated synths as that much-loved Hospital loungecore style shines through in Day 4’s ‘CNK’.

Teaming up with the acclaimed duo Pola & Bryson for Day 6, ‘Bending Light’ consists of elegant flourishes and heartfelt strings. For the final day, Hugh upped the challenge by deciding to not use any loops or samples, instead making use of his hardware synths and microphone to record the purrs and meows of his cat Gretchen to create pads and a bass line for the aptly titled, ‘Gretchen Bass’. This techy stepper is a perfect round off to a successful week of music-making. As Hugh said himself – “Sometimes all you need is a microphone and a cat”.

Hugh Hardie’s ‘7 Tunes In 7 Days’ project displays the versatility of his production and creative ability. Making the most of his time in isolation, Hugh attempted to demonstrate the numerous benefits of staying at home during these difficult times, when the world needs music more than ever.

Mitekiss – Magic feat. Ruth Royall (Official Video)

Buy or stream ‘Objects To Push’ here: http://www.Mitekiss.lnk.to/objectstopushyc
