Bop x Subwave – Teardrops

Buy or Stream ‘Love & Other Drugs’ here: https://BopxSubwave.lnk.to/LODyc

Two of Russia’s finest drum & bass producers have combined forces for an exciting new project. St Petersburg’s Microfunk mastermind Bop, and Moscow’s minimalistic groove guru Subwave, unite for their debut collaborative release ‘Love & Other Drugs’. With their elegant approach to drum & bass, this four-track EP fuses futuristic indie-electronica, 2-step UK garage, glitchy beats and 80’s inspired vocal stylings.

Progressive euphoria is the name of the game in ‘Teardrops’ as Bop x Subwave pick apart the structure of D+B in this warm, delicate and hypnotic glitch number. Following suit is ‘Space Warp’ – darker with eerie undertones, packaged as a sub-heavy stepper.

The second half of ‘Love & Other Drugs’ sees the duo branch out beyond the realms of traditional D+B. The bittersweet ballad ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ is kitted out with a definitive 80’s style. Seeing the EP home is ‘The Touch’ with the syncopated beatwork of 2-step UK Garage, complete with skippy breaks and snappy vocal sampling.

In the decade since the release of Hospital Records’ ‘Future Sound Of Russia’ LP, Bop and Subwave have produced an impressive array of tracks across Hospital Records, Med School, Liquicity, Shogun Audio, Metalheadz and Microfunk, cementing their reputations for going beyond the boundaries of D+B. Keep your eyes peeled for more collaborative musings from Bop x Subwave in 2020.

London Elektricity – Well That’s A Switch

Buy or Stream ‘Building Better Worlds’ here: https://LondonElek.lnk.to/BuildingBetterWorldsyc

Following six studio albums of funk-driven loungecore, Hospital Records’ head honcho London Elektricity embarks on the boldest musical adventure of his 30-year career with his seventh long-player ‘Building Better Worlds’.

It began in a Forest Hill cafe in 2017 where London Elektricity adoringly browsed through a series of Benjamin Beech’s photography of perfectly untouched, derelict buildings and towns in Japan, Taiwan and China. “Many of the images show what has been, what could have been and what will be. The duality of beauty and melancholia within appealed to me immensely.” Each track was married to a photo, to join the sights to sounds from each of his tales of ‘Building Better Worlds.’

Leading the voyage is the orchestral masterpiece ‘Final View From The Rooftops’, that’s been 13 years in the making and is the “most unusual piece of D+B” [he’s] ever made”, featuring the incredible operatic talent of Cydnei B. ‘Build A Better World’ is a smooth drum & bass sonnet with the vocals of Hospital family favourite Emer Dineen. “The beauty of this song lies in its simplicity, but also its duality. I’ll leave you to work out what the lyrics are really about… They are some of the darkest lyrics I’ve come across in years.”

Another special moment is the feature of London Elektricity’s youngest son, The Secretary-General. The talented nine-year-old takes no ‘Time To Think’ as he flawlessly flows through Inja’s lyrics with the ever-vibrant MC following suit, bringing the track full-circle across generations.

London Elektricity is the mastermind behind classic Hospital albums such as ‘Pull The Plug’, ‘Syncopated City’, ‘Are We There Yet?’, and ‘Yikes’. His latest body of work delves into uncharted depths for a very personal and expressive collection of tracks where drum & bass and live instrumentation meet. London Elektricity can be found showcasing this latest chapter with tours in China, Japan, the UK and Europe throughout 2019.

‘Building Better Worlds’ is available as a special limited edition, 36-page lyric-book complete with an in-depth narrative for each track and a 3 x clear vinyl, on sale exclusively from the Hospital Shop.

Camo & Krooked – Set It Off (feat. Jeru The Damaja)

Buy or Stream ‘Set It Off’ here: https://CamoAndKrooked.lnk.to/SetItOffyc

“With ‘Set It Off’ we wanted to create a hybrid between 90s hip-hop and forward-thinking D+B. Having Jeru The Damaja rap on our tune is a big honour, as he is one of the founding fathers of this era, working with Guru and DJ Premier of Gang Starr, and a personal youth hero.” – Camo & Krooked

After the effects of their Haitian weapon ‘Loa’ and recent heavyweight collaboration with Mefjus ‘Kallisto’, Hospital Records’ architects of the anti-drop, Camo & Krooked unleash their huge hip-hop meets drum & bass hybrid, ‘Set It Off’ with the lyrical mastery of hip-hop legend Jeru The Damaja.

On Camo & Krooked’s third release since returning home to Hospital Records, their sharp production is packed tightly with lashings of hip-hop beats and vocal hooks that crescendo into their famous stripped back anti-drop.

Hailing from Austria, Camo & Krooked have dominated the global drum & bass scene since signing to Hospital Records in 2010. These soundwave scientists can be found across the world in the coming months bringing their unique DJ sets to The Netherlands, Estonia, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and London for Hospitality Returns to The Dock in 2020.

Makoto – Show Me How You Feel (feat. Lorna King)

Buy or Stream ‘Tomodachi Sessions’ here: https://Makoto.lnk.to/TomodachiSessionsyc

As one of the founders of Japan’s drum & bass culture, Makoto is a man who needs little introduction. On his sixth studio album, ‘Tomodachi Sessions’, he presents 15-tracks of exquisite, sun-drenched drum & bass soul. Each and every track is a collaboration with a close friend, that has played a part in his twenty-year career, with the likes of DJ Marky, S.P.Y, Bop, MC Conrad, Pola & Bryson, Degs, Karina Ramage and more.

The uplifting summer number, ‘Shine On Through’ is a collaboration with the young breakthrough producer Mountain from Osaka, Japan. Makoto’s signature sound is brought into 2019, soaked in a warm rolling bassline, energetic synths and topped off with vocals from the outstanding singer/songwriter Karina Ramage.

The instrumental masterpiece ‘Kosa’ features Med School’s orchestral maverick Keeno and is the perfect combination of powerful soul, epic strings and dynamic drumwork.

‘Morning Sunrise’, is a majestic dose of drum & bass and is the team effort of Makoto, Danny Wheeler and G Force. It also brings in the vocal powerhouse Blu James, also known from the Basement Jaxx classic ‘Red Alert’.

Having gained respect for the quality of his music since the days of LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records, Makoto has gone from strength to strength with an impressive discography that includes seminal classics like ‘Golden Girl’ ft. MC Conrad. Makoto can be found at a number of events and festivals this summer, including Hospitality In The Park 2019, Sun & Bass, Liquicity, Standon Calling, and more.
