Protesters light up central Hong Kong in peaceful vigil | AFP

Over a thousand gather in Hong Kong’s Central business district for a prayer meeting ahead of a planned mass rally on Sunday that is banned by the police. The vigil calls for international aid for the city’s pro-democracy movement and mourn for those who have been injured or lost their lives since the beginning of the protests. The event coincides with the second attack on democracy activists in three days as violence escalates between supporters and opponents of the protests which are entering the 20th week.
