Riots continue: Palestinian security forces use tear gas on protesters in Hebron

Palestinian security forces used physical force and tear gas on protesters in various parts of the city of Hebron on Sunday, following continued unrest after US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Several injuries have been reported from the clashes.
Some protesters began throwing rocks at security forces, who in turn responded by firing smoke grenades and making several arrests.

Hebron: settlers’ “miracle” ended Palestinians’ “golden age”

Its Old City is in constant lockdown, its holy site where the biblical Abraham may have been buried guarded by Israeli soldiers at checkpoints. Fifty years after the Six-Day War, the ancient city of Hebron, set in the hills of the southern West Bank, has become perhaps the starkest symbol of Israel’s occupation.

‘Day of Rage’: IDF disperses Palestinian rally over hunger strike with rubber bullets & live ammo

Clashes broke out between protesters and soldiers from the Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Hebron, Friday, during a rally in support of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails entitled ‘Day of Rage’. The protest turned violent as Israeli forces deployed stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstration. Protesters set fire to rubber tyres and dustbins, while others resorted to throwing stones at the Israeli officers. READ MORE: https://on.rt.com/8c69

A City Divided: Jerusalem’s Most Contested Neighborhood

Throughout the past several months, Jerusalem has been a scene of clashes and violent attacks. Silwan, a Palestinian neighborhood just steps away from Jerusalem’s Old City, has been at the heart of the unrest, and is becoming one of the most contentious neighborhoods in the most contested city in the world.

As settlement expansion into East Jerusalem continues, Israeli authorities have ramped up their practice of demolishing homes built without proper permits — permits which are near impossible for Palestinians to acquire. In addition to the demolitions due to lack of permits, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in early November the reinstatement of the policy of demolishing terrorists’ homes, which Palestinians claim is a form of collective punishment.

VICE News traveled to Silwan and met with Palestinians and Israelis living in this contested neighborhood at a time when Jerusalem is more divided than ever.

As the Israeli bombardment and invasion of the Gaza strip continues — and militants continue to launch crude rockets into Israel — there’s relative quiet in the other Palestinian territory, the West Bank. With the conflict focused on the Hamas-run Gaza strip, it’s easy to forget the West Bank used to be one of the focal points of resistance against the state of Israel. That may still be the case, but today in the West Bank, there are no rockets being fired into Israel and few demonstrations compared to Jerusalem.

Palestinian security forces, activists, and ordinary Palestinians say this could quickly change. VICE News brings you to the restive city of Hebron, which has historically supported Hamas, to find out if, how, and for how long things can stay this way.

Palestinian Father Grieves for Slain Son: Rockets and Revenge (Dispatch 4)

On the night of July 2, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, a 16-year old Palestinian from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat, was abducted and killed by a group of right-wing extremist Israelis. The attack was in apparent retaliation for the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens whose bodies were discovered north of the West Bank city of Hebron two days earlier.

Khdeir’s autopsy showed the boy burned to death while he was still alive. His killing set off demonstrations and clashes throughout the West Bank and elsewhere, with thousands of Palestinians protesting his death.

VICE News went to Shuafat to speak with a grieving father about his son’s death and the latest round of events that followed it.
