Ruptly has obtained exclusive footage from inside the plane from Tokyo responsible for evacuating US passengers from the shunned ‘Diamond Princess’ coronavirus cruise ship to California on Monday.
Passengers can be seen boarding the flight alongside officials and medics wearing protective gear and masks. Footage also shows passengers being assessed as the total number of confirmed cases on the ‘Diamond Princess’ cruise ship hit 454.
Two planes took off from Haneda Airport [Tokyo] following a five and a half hour bus journey, that “should have taken 20 minutes from the ‘Diamond Princess,'” according to evacuated passenger Spencer Fehrenbacher.
The death toll of the virus, which has been declared by the WHO as a “global health emergency” has overtaken the SARs epidemic of the early 2000s, claiming the lives of 1,775.
Around 70,500 persons have been infected in China alone with more than 370 cases declared in over 25 other countries, including Germany, the UK and the US. Three deaths have been confirmed outside China; in France, Japan and the Philippines.
