French helicopter carrier arrives in Guadeloupe with logisitcal support | AFP

The French helicopter carrier Dixmude arrives in Guadeloupe, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean, to offer logistical support and transport medical supplies. Its load contains almost 500,000 surgical masks, 66,000 FFP2 masks and hundreds of litres of hand sanitiser. It is the vessel’s second stop after sailing to Saint-Martin on Friday and before visiting Martinique on Sunday. IMAGES

Coronavirus: Guadeloupe water cuts complicate preventive measures | AFP

Instructions are clear: to avoid contracting the coronavirus, hands must be washed regularly. But in Guadeloupe, recurrent water cuts in several communes seriously complicate the matter. “It’s very difficult with containment because we use more water than usual and it creates problems for us to be able to replenish it. We’re forced to go to the beach where there’s free water, to the river,” says one resident.
