Schematic & Polaris – Conduit

Hidden under Canada’s ice-cold slopes is a core community of producers, DJs, fans and followers, all playing an essential role in supporting and growing Canada’s eclectic underground mountain of drum & bass. In ‘The Future Sound of Canada’ EP the Hospital Records team draw out its key players to keep an eye on, adding six tracks from Schematic, Polaris, Gremlinz and Levrige to their worldwide series.

Leading the EP are two serious solo artists who’s combined discography boasts releases on Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s imprint Technique Recordings and Toronto-based Inner City Dance. As an equally powerful production pairing, Schematic & Polaris have delivered ‘Conduit’ to the EP – a serene trip through deep, melodic drum & bass. Also take notice of their equally special solo offerings: Polaris’ ‘The Light In Your Eyes’ and Schematic’s hypnotic ‘Learn From The Past’ featuring Victor Davies.

Gremlinz – another Toronto talent – switches the EP from ethereal liquid to solid sonic sound waves with ‘Tactical Rail’, matching raw and rapid old-skool drum work with sinister siren calls. Then we come to the Levrige duo, a new project started by valiant Vancouver titans J.F.Killah and Erski who’ve brought an intriguing futuristic jungle, half time style to the mix with ‘The Legend’. Simplistic keys paired with complex percussions finishes up the EP in Stranjah’s ‘Gideon’.

The 2016 revival of the ‘Future Sound of’ series draws to a close after connecting a multitude of drum & bass talent from America, Brazil, Holland and now Canada. All four fresh EPs are a triumph in the discovery of the next generation of producers and only further prove the unstoppable global reach of the genre, all spearheaded by its leading independent label, Hospital Records.

Conduct – Futile [Lifestyle Recordings]

Conduct/Lockjaw
Lifestyle Recordings – Cat #: LFS035
Released – 18th Nov 2013

1. Conduct – Futile
2. Lockjaw – Big System

The ever-absorbing Lifestyle Recordings label continues to present strong, challenging music, music which reaches parts of your soul you probably didn’t know exist. Their new release, the imprint’s 35th, sees Conduct contribute Futile, and Lockjaw come with Big System.

The label has been rightly praised for its atmospheric music, which has an uncanny ability to remain relevant for the dancefloor. Showcasing the many different types of drum & bass and dubstep to the nation and the world, it is home to names like Tomek K, Dominic Ridgway, Macca, Hosta and more. Conduct are the creative geniuses behind Futile. The producers, based in South West London, very much like to let their music do the talking. They put the beats to the front of their minds, and to the front of yours.

InsideInfo “These are great! really well made, full support!”
CRAZE “Crazy!!”
Crissy Criss “Wicked”
Zeds Dead “Sick!”
Neonlights “Nice tunes. Futile has a place in our cd case :)”
BTK “Futile is pretty cool will be playing this one!”

The track is the exact type of future-led d&b that fits Lifestyle so perfectly, with rushy breaks leading into some epic-sounding synths and warped undertow. The main part of the track comes exploding out at you, complete with cataclysmic effects and some seriously fat bass. Ready to tear down any club, Futile is a seriously heavy track for the end of the year.

Lockjaw emanates from Canberra, but his music transcends nationality and location. Deep, dark and resolutely original, Lockjaw is setting his sights high. The catchy, insistent opening to Big System is only the beginning, with tight kicks highlighting the engineering prowess which Lockjaw also brings to the table.

Things take a dark turning part way through, as the producer guides you through some dank underground tunnels which reek of beats, bass and bashy rhythms. Hard, punishing and uncompromising, this one is set to smash. Futile/Big System show what Lifestyle are all about, and what they are capable of. Take a trip inside the minds of Conduct and Lockjaw, and understand why so many people are talking about Lifestyle Recordings.

DJ Support for this album includes:
Black Sun Empire, Crissy Criss, InsideInfo, CRAZE, BTK, Billian, Dr.Meaker, Neonlights, Hoodlum, Gremlinz, AMC, Basher, Drumsound, Zeds Dead, Bachelors of Science, Sixth Blade, Erb n Dub, John B, Magical Gravity, Mad Vibes, LAOS, Rido, Mista Noize, Dose, Ruffstuff, Chef, Donovan Smith, Callide, Savage Rehab, Stanza, Lutin, Dara, J Science, Cybin and more!

Task Horizon – Shattered Self ft. MC Spyda [Evolution Chamber]

Task Horizon – Arachnophilia EP
Evolution Chamber Recordings

1 Shattered Self ft. MC Spyda
2 Let Them Talk ft. MC Spyda
3 No Soundboy ft. MC Spyda
4 Unimpossible ft. MC Spyda

Full Release: 28 th Oct 2013
CAT: EVOCEP001 / Digital

Music which stands the test of time, which transcends technology and reaches into the souls of listeners. This is the basis of Task Horizon’s projects and is the legacy of their time together. Their work ethic and desire has resulted in much-acclaimed releases on
DSCI4, Timeless, Cause4Concern, and more, and has seen them launch their own Evolution Chamber label, where they continue to explore the possibilities of d&b, drumstep, electro and beyond.

Sub Focus “Shattered shelf is a great track”
Prototypes “Shattered is sick,”
CRAZE “Dope shit!”
Optiv “Great Tunes As Always!!!!”

Their latest mission sees them team up with The Black Tarantula himself MC Spyda on the Arachnophilia EP. This four-tracker sees the duo at their peak, controlling the boards like only they know how. Moving effortlessly between styles, the EP shows off their skill and passion in equal measure. Opener Shattered Self moves with a range of emotions, from dark, through deep, to elegiac and uplifting. Electronic music from and for the next millennium, the sonic background fits and moulds to Spyda’s rhymes perfectly. Beyond enormous.

The Swiss producers’ music has been supported by Noisia, Ed Rush and Optical, Optiv and more and it’s not hard to see why. Let Them Talk carries on the vibe of the EP, heading into some driving, cinematic territory, where their electro and dubstep influences come shining through. Again, Spyda’s killer rhymes are clear, sharp and delivered with venom and intent. Climb inside.

John B “wow. nuts. thanks.”
Neon Lights “HUGE! big prodcution as always! Big ups bad boy :)”
Zardonic “Shattered Self is gonna wreak some
serious havok!”

Who can test Task Horizon and Spyda? No Soundboy, according to the third cut on the collection. More bass n’ beats madness pervades this one, with a stuttering, storming drum line to satisfy all and sundry. Builds, drops, synths and pure craziness, as the MC stamps his authority on all proceedings. Sharp, funky and seriously dangerous. Closer Unimpossible collects things together perfectly, as it hurtles through space and time in an intergalactic battle between the producers and vocalist. Complete with touches of drum & bass, drumstep, dubstep and that indefinable quality which all great producers have, it is a fitting end to the EP.

Task Horizon continue on their quest to bring music forward and take it to new places. Lose your fears, and come face to face with the Arachnophila EP.

Rene LaVice “love mc spyda, bigup”
Billain “like this alot!!!”
Gremlinz “Heavy release!”
Brookes Bros “Cracking combo bigups guys”

DJ SUPPORT: Sub Focus, The Prototypes, John B, Chris Renegade, CRAZE, Optiv, Mob Tactics, Zeds Dead, Treo, CZA, Neon Lights, Drumsound, Black Sun Empire, Basher, DC Breaks, Brookes Bros, Telekinesis, Doc Scott, Mufler, Dose, No Money, Gremlinz, Zardonic, Rene LaVice, Billain!
