Israeli photographer revives archaic art form in border series

Edward Kaprov makes a final adjustment to the oversized, traditional-style camera perched on a heavy tripod aimed at an Israeli military jeep near the Gaza border. Kaprov, a professional photographer, says he took to the mid-19th century wet-plate collodion process as part of an artistic project to “create a dialogue between the past and future”.

A zoo in Rafah, in the south of the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, is now offering the chance to play with a lion after it was declawed. The 14-month lioness, which is called Falestine and still has its original teeth, is supposed to be placid enough to meet visitors.
