Andy C ‘Cool Down’ (Total Science Remix)

Andy C ‘Cool Down’ (Total Science Remix)

Standing as one of the most resounding electronic music labels in history, Ram Records has finally hit its 25-year milestone. Established by Andy C and Ant Miles in 1992, the label has boldly placed itself on the forefront since its inception, acting as a foundation for the drum & bass genre and seeing through its development from the very beginning.

Once heralded as a platform for Andy C’s own productions, the imprint expandedmassively, becoming a world-renowned hub for some of the biggest drum & bass artists to ever hit the scene. The label has gone from strength to strength, helping to pedestal house-hold names such as Chase & Status, Sub Focus and Wilkinson. From the charts to the radio airwaves, they’ve continued their crossover success.Receiving daytime airplay and top ten positions unceasingly over the last decade, the producers have enabled Ram’s influence to seep into every corner of dance music.

Alongside support from BMG and current label manager Jim Gash, 2017 has seen Ram Records ascend to new heights. And to celebrate their twenty fifth year, Ram will be rereleasing twenty five original remastered classics from their definitive back catalogue as well as seventeen remixes, including reworks from Chase & Status, Killbox, DC Breaks, Frankee, Total Science, Benny L, Kasra and Enei, Ant Miles and Shimon, Bladerunner, DJ Marky Calyx & Teebee, Sound in Noise and Metrik. All in, it’s Ram’s most ambitious project to date.

The 25th year of Ram’s history is looking to be its most memorable yet. Both musically and through their major city UK tour dates, Ram’s versatile roster is still being pushed to new borders. Quarter of a century on and the record label is as strong as ever.

Since his very first release on Ram’s sister label Program, Frankee has continued to make progress across Ram’s vast back catalogue of music. Now in its twenty fifth year, Frankee has become an integral part of its roster, with his anticipated debut LP coming closer with every successive release. And following over a decade of dedicated graft, after discovering the world of drum & bass at the age of thirteen, it’s unsurprising that his last string of singles have been heralded by fans and tastemakers alike. Whether it’s the vocal crescendos of tracks like ‘Nobody Cares’, or the imposing chaos of ‘Gully’, Frankee caters to a vast audience; an audience who’ve been waiting for his forthcoming album with baited breath.

The next single from Frankee is ‘Skuttle’, more reminiscent of his fiercer productions yet also dipping into new sound territories. With skittering percussion, crunching snare and snapping drum peddles, ‘Skuttle’ takes you into the murky world of Frankee whilst living up to its namesake. Giving a snapshot into the vast soundscape Frankee has stretched across his debut album, ‘Skuttle’ prepares you for a journey which will once again see Frankee as one of the most interesting and divisive newcomers to push through over the last five years.

If you’re looking for a track which is apt to send the record collections of tech purists ablaze, yet still create devastation on the dancefloor, Frankee certainly delivers. ‘Skuttle’ stands for not just another stepping stone towards his album, but also for his entire career, creating a milestone which will resonate throughout his discography. It signposts a major feat for Frankee as a producer, an embodiment of what he has in store for 2017 and his lifetime dedication to drum & bass.

Built for the rave and forthcoming on Ram Records, Andy C’s ‘What Bass’ has been roadtested during his 13 week XOYO residency, and was given its first radio play on his Beats 1 show on Friday night. This dancefloor-ready cut is the first new music from Andy C since 2016’s ‘New Era’, and will precede a new single for Atlantic Records later this year.

With over 40 awards to date, Andy C’s career has been nothing short of a phenomenon. He’s sold-out Alexandra Palace and Brixton Academy with his own solo shows, played headline slots at the world’s greatest festivals including Creamfields, Glastonbury, EDC, and SW4, and released a string of phenomenal crossover anthems like ‘Heartbeat Loud’ and club tracks like ‘New Era’. He’s also the go-to remixer for the likes of Major Lazer, Sigala, London Grammar and beyond, and the d&b figure recently chosen to host the first drum & bass radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1, broadcast to over 100 countries.

As the owner and figurehead for Ram Records, which celebrates 25 years in 2017, Andy’s nurtured and developed huge headline artists such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson and Sub Focus, turning it into one of the world’s most respected independent operations across recordings and now festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Creamfields, and SW4 where Ram have hosted their own arenas and stages.

Andy’s main signature motif as a DJ is that he’s guaranteed to be packing tracks that no other DJ has. Hunting, digging, searching and signing: he is constantly immersed in new music. Not only does this ensure a wholly unique experience when you see him live, but it also gives Ram Records a front row seat when it comes to spotting new artists… As the likes of Loadstar, Wilkinson, Calyx & TeeBee, Frankee, Delta Heavy, Culture Shock, DC Breaks, Hamilton, Mind Vortex, Chords and many more can happily confirm.

On 31 March, Andy will complete his 13 week residency run at XOYO. The first d&b artist chosen by the renowned London club, tickets for his entire residency sold out far in advance. The Friday night run has allowed Andy to nurture a weekly crowd on a par with his legendary sets at The End, bringing together older heads and d&b’s new converts together under one roof.

Summer 2017 festival dates include Lovebox, Let it Roll festival, Snowbombing, Lost & Found, Wild Life, Parklife, Dour Festival, Nu Forms, Boardmasters, Dreambeach, Innovation in the Sun, Tomorrowland, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival, Bestival, Middlelands and many more to be announced.

Drum & bass producer Frankee began his DJing career at one of the most prestigious drum & bass record labels dance music had to offer. Ram Records enlisted the budding producer following his consecutive releases on their sister imprint Program, known for pushing the grittiest sounds the underground pedestalled. However, following his ascent and worldwide tours on the club circuit, Frankee has pushed his undeniably heavyweight production standard into every corner.

Since his exclusive signing to Ram Records, he’s dropped both hard-hitting dancefloor shakers and emphatic liquid rollers. Slowly building his discography beside Ram, Frankee has moved from strength to strength, proving a wealth of talent that clearly bloom across his next few releases.

The announcement of his debut LP and worldwide tour, which included a show-stopping performance at Russia’s Pirate Radio Station, saw him return with another single to further raise the anticipation for his forthcoming album. Nobody Cares derives from the softly spoken rhythms which have helped to platform his diversity as an artist. Nobody Cares rolls out on carefully padded beats and strung out, diced up vocal melody. Frankee brings forward his softer elements, pushing them through a meticulously fashioned record. It provides the flipside to the darker side of his repertoire, made infamous by tracks like Gully and Pandorum. Frankee once again ensures he stays at the top of his game, providing another step towards his greatest body of work yet.

Nobody Cares represents a part of the journey Frankee has taken, one which will result in another monumental album for Ram Records. Alongside the withstanding imprint, he’ll continue his path to with a continuously impressive musicality.

Frankee has been working hard in the studio recently, diligently crafting these next few cuts and creating his biggest body of work to date. After a brief hiatus, he’s returned to the scene with a whole record collection of tracks which symbolise his meteoric climb. The first selection is ‘Romana’, a stepping stone towards his first LP on revered imprint Ram Records. After delivering cuts for Ram’s sister-label Program, he was signed exclusively to one of the most monumental dance music outputs in the world. Since then, he’s grown from strength to strength, creating crunching, club bangers like ‘Gully’, as well as liquid rollers like ‘Love & Peace’. His diversity is astounding and this carries through into his forthcoming LP, due to be released later this year.

Frankee is also a notorious figure on the club circuit. Having performed at the world’s largest drum & bass gathering, including Prague’s Let it Roll and Russia’s Pirate Station his presence behind the decks is just as diverse as his studio releases and his first LP will certainly reflect this.

‘Romana’ is deceptive in its intro, moving out on soft instrumentals, plucking notes and a female-lead vocal melody. However, the track quickly switches, crashing forward on grating snare with a bassline that quickly zips between the mix. Pitched up synth cuts between layers, giving you a brief respite before the record once again crashes with vibrating subs. ‘Romana’ is the perfect reintroduction into Frankee’s versatility, one that’s sure to bring him even further onto the forefront.

Frankee has stood as one of the most hotly tipped producers on Ram’s roster, catapulting himself onto the scene with aggressive and divisive dancefloor slayers. However, having two decades within the game already notched on his musical bed post, the producer has cemented himself within the genre’s trophy cabinet. And he’s returning after a brief hiatus with two brand new pieces of sonic artwork to take you into Summer’s final months; a farewell to the festival stages his anthems have been played from.
Receiving support from Ram’s head honcho Andy C, who’s pedestalled his sound since it was first discovered by the revered veteran, and radio tastemakers alike, Frankee has a firm history behind him with previous releases. His next single ‘Clap Your Hands’ and ‘Love & Peace’ present two immensely different tracks which epitomize why Frankee’s music has garnered such a backing, whilst exposing the polar opposites of his sound. Whether you were looking for the pounding, bassline driven layers of ‘Drop it Low’ or the more ethereal, heart-felt vibe of his Loadstar ‘Away’ remix, this single channels both sides of the coin.
Your first introduction to Frankee’s return is via ‘Clap Your Hands’, once again platforming the sub-driven records he’s famed for. Building up into a cascading drop whilst grinding LFO provides the steps, it’s difficult not to be pulled in by its relentless beats and quick-fire drum patterns. With metallic vocal samples adding encouragement between each segment, Frankee is back and carrying the weaponry which made him so dangerous behind the decks.
On the reverse, ‘Love and Peace’ adds another dimension, not only proving Frankee’s production capabilities, but also a contrast in musical attitudes. Natural yet still synthetic, it brings together shaking percussion and female vocals in a way that curtails both the light and dark shades of his skillset. A blissful liquid roller that carries itself from start to finish, it features nostalgic breaks whilst keeping a mechanical continuity.
This next output proves Frankee is back… And just like before, he’s demonstrating why he’s become a quintessential part in people’s libraries.
