DC Breaks ‘Gambino’ (Inside Info Remix)

DC Breaks
RAMM316
‘Different Breed Remixes’
RAM RECORDS
RELEASED 14th March

The announcement of DC Breaks’ ‘Different Breed’ remix package came as a surprise. The original LP has already done untold carnage through the club circuit, so to bring on board more high ranking artists for yet another ‘Different Breed’ project is a huge feat. And having already dropped reworks from A.M.C & Turno, Flowidus and Tantrum Desire, their list of collaborators is continuing to grow.

This time they draw for Ram Records roster members Loadstar and heavyweight engineer InsideInfo, who both extract the original vibes and mould them into their own individualistic styles. Whilst Loadstar implements their more melodic, dancefloor infused breakdowns for ‘Remember’, InsideInfo crashes forward with a darker, bass-ridden undertow through his take on ‘Gambino’. Yet again DC Breaks relies on their fierce counterparts, keeping the duo at the centre of the game through an expert A&R craftsmanship. This can be seen not only through their own releases, but also the artists they’ve chosen to breathe a new life into their damaging cuts.

DC Breaks ‘Never Stop’ (S.P.Y Remix)

DC Breaks ‘Never Stop’ (S.P.Y Remix)

The art of remixing is something which DC Breaks hold in high regard – from their own cuts through to the artists they’ve chosen for their Different Breed reworks, their standards have been clear from the offset. Even the original release of their seminal LP featured a hugely diverse array of collaborative artists and musical signatures, which is why the duo came through Ram Records’ roster with so much garnered interest. And adding to the already popular twists from A.M.C & Turno, Flowidus and Tantrum Desire, more artists enter the fray for their own takes on DC Breaks’ sound.

S.P.Y and Synergy are next to take you into the deeper and darker world of Different Breed, drawing styles from opposite sides of the same spectrum and twisting them into something almost unrecognisable.

First up, S.P.Y moves through Never Stop, pushing DC Breaks’ more dancefloor, vocal-lead breakdowns and slamming them against a more tech-driven reimagining. S.P.Y is the master of driving a minimalist sound design whilst also smacking hard on its impact; between every clattering layer of drums and elevating blast of LFO, the original melody streams throughout his remix. The bare bones of Never Stop are clear to see, but S.P.Y makes his presence known through every crackle of bass.

Following in quick succession is Synergy’s version of Hustle, which dramatically switches gears and orchestrates a more stabbing descent into chaos. With Synergy’s neuro-infused background making itself known, their pounding kicks and snares catapult Hustle into a more cataclysmic scene, one which is sure to gain a following throughout their loyal following of DJs. The pair have already found themselves as a centrepiece within the darker side of drum & bass throughout recent months and following a release on the infamous Ram Records imprint, this heat is about to switch up another notch. More remixes are still to come from DC Breaks’ debut Different Breed LP and looking back at its first consecutive unveilings, their full power hasn’t yet been felt.

DC Breaks ‘Everybody’ (Flowidus Remix)

DC Breaks ‘Everybody’ (Flowidus Remix)

The first part of DC Breaks’ ‘Different Breed’ remix package already climatised its listener to the standard of brought into its 2018 addition. With Tantrum Desire reworking ‘Underground’, and Prolix joining DC Breaks for a VIP of ‘Infinity’, it was a welcome reminder of just how imperative the pair’s debut album was on 25-year strong imprint Ram Records. However they dip into a new range of producers for its next segment, focusing on 174bpm maestros who have helped drum & basses creative streams over the past twelve months whilst simultaneously paving their own way across its dancefloor lit trenches.

Bass stacked duo A.M.C and Turno deliver their undiluted sounds for ‘Vendetta’, still pushing forward on its orchestral, beat layered introduction before taking you down to a completely different set of levels. Crushing LFO distortion and a sharp-edged hook cuts at you throughout every nastily padded break, with the outfit demonstrating why they’re such esteemed players on today’s club circuit. On the flipside, you’re driven through the detailed intricacies of Flowidus’ production, which weaves a craftily manufactured melody throughout the mix of ‘Everybody’, a single already pulsing with an emotive backdrop. The Australian based pair pulls the track into play with tinkling piano notes and a more-liquid focused breakdown which is still as dynamic but more subdued in its approach. They provide yet another addition to their releases on the Ram Records label, having already featured on both their groundbreaking compilations and its counterpart, Program.

With more to come from the likes of Ram Records’ own Loadstar, neuro-tastemaker Insideinfo, as well as a plethora of other vigilantly sought out drum & bass tastemakers, there’s more from the aspirators who paved DC Breaks’ path to ‘Different Breed’.

Aspiring Australian based duo Flowidus burst onto the scene and the Ram Records landscape in 2016, with their debut Program release, the From The Storm EP, which exhibited their smooth production, variety and evolving style. Now, the budding production partnership made up of Spillage and Dealt Fairly are back for an even an even bigger 2017. Already having tracks featured on the Ram Records compilation series and having supported DC Breaks on the Australian leg of their worldwide Different Breed tour, Flowidus are now set to unleash their sophomore release on Program, in the form of No Matter / Zulu.

In a departure from the mainly liquid vibes of their last EP, the duo are now ready to further delve into a heavier side of their production, something that has been consistently featured throughout their songs but never fully explored. No Matter opens with the same atmospheric, layered composition that has become a staple of Flowidus’ young sound. However, as it drops it reveals itself to be a roller with a heavy bassline, repeated vocal sample and overlays of their signature melodies, resulting in a dynamic piece of production.

On the B side comes Zulu, which lives up to its name with a tribal inspired build up complete with African drums, the sounds of jungle animals and a ragga vocal sample. After growing, the tune drops with a growling synth and crisp drum pattern creating a certified dancefloor destroyer, as well as a testament of the duo’s ever evolving style. Having now established themselves as a Program staple, the question is how far Flowidus’ style will evolve, and where it will take them.
