Screens shielding ancient Ethiopian churches worry locals

Residents of the Ethiopian town of Lalibela worry that massive tarpaulin screens erected to protect ancient churches could collapse and destroy the historic churches. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1978, the Lalibela churches are unique. They are carved from rock and sit below ground level, surrounded by deep, dry moats, with only their roofs visible.

Air crash investigators & Red Cross workers spent Monday retrieving remains and personal items belonging to the 149 passengers and eight crew members, of 35 different nationalities, who were on flight ET302.

Thousands of Ethiopian-Israelis protested in Tel Aviv against police brutality after an officer killed an Ethiopian man two weeks ago.
The protest was mostly peaceful, but by nightfall it became violent as dozens of demonstrators clashed with Israeli forces.
