Skankandbass London – 27.09.17

Buy early bird tickets on RA: http://bit.ly/SNB-RA
Attend on Facebook: http://bit.ly/SNB-FB

Proceeding with the aim to promote the best in underground drum and bass music, we’re happy to present our next club event taking place in the heart of East London this September.

Big news – we’re re-locating to The Pickle Factory – an intimate new space for music lovers, launched by the team behind Oval Space – and located directly opposite it in Bethnal Green. The Pickle Factory is a new state-of-the-art music venue, designed specifically with music in mind. Sennheiser even named it the best sound system for a small club in Europe! We can’t wait for you to hear it – in the meantime, please find more information and photos here: http://bit.ly/2uFad8E

Staying true to the Skankandbass sound, we continue to showcase a lineup consisting of superstar special guests and the most exciting names in Drum & Bass, new or well known. Just under a year ago, our debut sold-out event saw special guests Sub Focus, Culture Shock and Dimension blow the roof off The Nest, with a similar showcase at our second event in March – Pendulum, Friction and Dimension. The special guests will be at a similar level this September.

The event lineup will be announced next Wednesday, however, you will not find the calibre of these Drum & Bass headliners in a small capacity club anywhere else in the world.

Strictly underground, strictly heads.

Pola & Bryson – Nerf

The debut Skankandbass event has been announced and is taking place at The Nest in London, 28th September.
Tickets are available here: http://bit.ly/SNB-TIX // confirm your attendance Facebook, here: http://bit.ly/SNBL-FB

Released 8th August.

Soulvent Records proudly presents ‘This Time Last Year’, the debut album from one of the scenes most talked about acts; Pola & Bryson. The East London duo have been on top form this year, with releases on Soulvent, Spearhead, Liquicity & Hospital Records. After making it official in early 2015, these two have been non stop in the studio, intuitively paving the way for their first LP, whilst setting a stellar example of how to do it your own way, and do it well.

The album sees the lads link up with some of the finest producers and vocalists in the UK and beyond, including: New Zealand singer Blake, Forest Gate faithful Sammie Bella, North London based singer songwriter Tayah Ettienne, Bristol big cheese Siege MC, popular Dutch born singer MVE, and Leeds artist Loz Contreras. The first single from the project even boasts remixes from Mitekiss, and most notably Bcee & Villems’ new venture ‘The Vanguard Project’.

As the title track portrays, ‘This Time Last Year’ takes listeners through their journey over the last 12 months, building a truly signature sound of drum and bass that entices the ears like no other. The intelligence in Pola & Bryson’s production shines through in tracks like ‘A Good Thing’ and ’Stuck In A Memory’, where they explore a more unconventional, almost futuristic side of the genre. Alongside those, a host of vocal lead tracks on the LP like ‘Open My Eyes’, ‘Run From You’, ’Talk To Me’ and ‘Temporary Love’ make for a nostalgic, beautifully balanced debut work.

Already with support from several artists over at Hospital, Spearhead head honcho BCee, along with backing from Radio 1 regular Friction, this 15 track album will undeniably be on the lips and in the headphones of fans & industry moguls alike for a very long time.

Revaux – Head First

The debut Skankandbass event is here and it’s going to be very special. Sign up for exclusive event info and ticket news: http://bit.ly/SNB-LDN

Released 1st July here: https://lifestylemusicuk.bandcamp.com

Revaux is the collective name for two brothers from Yorkshire who have been releasing some of the finest techy rollers this year.. Currently living on opposite sides of the country (Joe is based in Leeds while Ru makes tunes out of East London) the duo often bounce ideas across but prefer to book a couple of solid days off work to make music.

It seems to be working..You might have heard some more of these guys’ tunes recently, The last compilation from Authentic Music charted in the top 10 Beatport charts last month and they’ve had support from Icicle, DLR, Loxy as well as spins on Rinse FM & the Hospital Podcast.

Following the tried and tested method of two brothers grafting to make waves in Drum & Bass, the duo have enjoyed a serious spike in notoriety the past year. Their tracks have been played worldwide & they are currently bubbling under the surface of the bass music scene in the North of England.

Parents Struggle with Daughter’s Desertion (Excerpt from ‘Groomed by the Islamic State’)

In February 2015, three teenage schoolgirls left the comfort of their homes in East London and traveled to Syria to join the self-styled Islamic State. Around 60 women and girls are thought to have made the same journey from Britain.

The story of their disappearance dominated the UK press for weeks and the blame game inevitably began to hunt out whose fault it was. When the families of Amira Abase, Shamima Begum, and Kadiza Sultana found out that the police had been interviewing the trio about another girl from their school who had already joined IS, the case was picked up for investigation by the government. But soon certain sections of the press would turn on the families themselves.

VICE News gained intimate access to the father of one girl, Amira, and joined him as he dealt with the press and parliament to find out what it’s like for those left behind by the tragic choices of their loved ones.

In this excerpt, the parents of Amira Abase struggle to understand why their 15-year-old daughter has run away. Hussen and Fetia explain to VICE News how it feels to lose a loved one to the extremist organization.

Sister of Jihadi Bride Speaks Out (Extra Scene from ‘Groomed By The Islamic State’)

In this extra scene, we talk to Renu, the sister of 15-year old Shamima. She tells us about the moment the family discovered Shamima had traveled to Turkey and why this was such a shock. The family’s lawyer also attends the meeting, to share some potentially relevant evidence with VICE News.
