June Miller
A: Empathy AA: Operation Ivy

Buy via:
Beatport – http://po.st/JMEmpathyOpIvyBP
iTunes – http://po.st/JMEmpathyOpIvyiT
Ram Shop (Vinyl & Digital) – http://po.st/JMEmpathyOpIvyRS
Trackitdown – http://po.st/JMEmpathyOpIvyTID

Few acts showcase drum & bass’s exciting creative scope with the same skillish vibrancy as June Miller.

Since signing to Ram Records a year ago, the Dutch/Anglo duo have locked themselves away in their Utrecht HQ working on a series of mindblowing creations. Deep in sonic solitude, they’ve pushed themselves to whole new levels… As proved by the stunning ‘Empathy’ and ‘Operation Ivy’. Both pivotal tracks on Andy C’s explosively extensive ‘Nightlife 6’ opus, these cuts represent June Miller’s chiselled production skills like never before.

We kick off with ‘Empathy’. Igniting with a surging sense of soul, the unity of timeless synths and spellbinding vocals set a smouldering scene that’s suddenly shattered into gnarled fragments when the drop lands. An overwhelming bass riff scuffs across the blistering breakbeats to create a thunderous groove. Instant riot material, this has been tried and tested by Andy C since the summer, each airing causing unparalleled commotion in its wake.

‘Operation Ivy’ complements the carnage perfectly. A jittering, snake-like roller with deep funk coded into every element, everything about this pristine precision piece is designed to get the floor wriggling. From the crisp digi slap bass to the strident, spacious drum dynamics and textured rhythmic stabs, this is an impeccable example of how measured and meticulous drum & bass production standards are when they’re in the right hands.

Two outstanding cuts from one of the scene’s most forward-thinking, accomplished acts, two representations of how far-reaching and creative drum & bass can be: June Miller have an incredible year ahead of them. And it starts right here.

DJ Support:

“Love the soul vibes” – Dillinja
“June Miller never fail to amaze” – Cutline

Melysma – ‘Work It Out’

Melysma
‘Meditate / Work It Out’

Melysma, the latest addition to Program’s impressive roster, is bursting back onto the scene with all the skill and veracity of a recently nurtured newcomer. Born and based in London, the DJ and producer has an impressive back catalogue of tracks. It’s no surprise that Program had no doubts in adding him to their release schedule and he’s been hard at work in the studio, perfecting this pair of brand new, rip-roaring tunes.

Both tracks ‘Meditate’ and ‘Work it Out’ centre around uplifting, rolling melodies whilst powerful vocals pierce through the mix of A-side ‘Meditate’. The name of this tune certainly does it justice, since you can so easily lose yourself in its serenity. Effortlessly, Melysma gradually adds to the soundscape, until it promises a move towards the heavier elements that make up the main body of the composition. A sudden descent plunges you into a complex layering of crisp percussion, while the smooth central break offers up more calming, mystical synths and ensures that the second drop packs an even greater punch.

‘Work It Out’, the single’s second musical masterpiece, has been produced with yet more unfaltering technical precision. It certainly makes a statement on impact, with warming, old-school synths that carry the track into a different realm of sound. The energy builds with each burst of vocal splendor, until the full-throttled, buzzing bass takes hold and transports you to the darkest corners of the drum & bass world.

‘Meditate’ and ‘Work it Out’ are a perfect showcase of this up-and-coming star’s immense aptitude. The release is likely to be the start of many great things to come… So once again, it’s time to get with the Program.

Danny Byrd – iDragon

Buy/Stream: https://DannyByrd.lnk.to/AtomicFunkyb

Drum & bass pioneer and Hospital Record’s crown jewel Danny Byrd is back! He’s set 2018 ablaze with monolith anthems ‘Devil’s Drop’, ‘Salute’ ft MC GQ and ‘Hold Up The Crown’ ft Ky Lenz, now he proudly presents his first album in five years, ‘Atomic Funk’.

A 15-track funk-fuelled compendium of rolling dancefloor-fillers that tributes to the jungle foundation moulding his early discography. Collaborations with the likes of I-Kay, Maduk, Ownglow, Times x Two and MC GQ, fuse with powerful doses of Danny’s hip-hop and R&B infused 174BPM productions. ‘Atomic Funk’ is undoubtedly Mr Byrd’s finest work to date and includes one of the biggest future D+B anthems ‘Holy Star’ that’s brought to life with vocal delights from MC Foxy.

‘Just A Step Away’ (ft. Ownglow) has become a silver bullet for the Byrd, taking a spotlight in his DJ sets as his finishing move. With its gorgeous vocals, volatile rave synths and humming sub-bass, it’s not hard to see why. However, that’s far from the only weapon in this legend’s locker. ‘Roll The Drums’ is a certified sub shaker bringing a fierce bassline and thundering percussion, plus there’s raw jungle madness with ‘In The Meantime’ (ft. Hannah Symons).

With fifteen incredible tracks from Hospital Records’ longest standing signing, ‘Atomic Funk’ is Danny Byrd at his best. Crafted for the dancefloor and feel-good from start to finish, a must-have for any true Hospital fan.
