Supporters of the former Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri took to the streets of Beirut on Thursday night to protest against the nomination of Hassan Diab as his successor.
Hariri’s supporters protested outside Diab’s home, angry that their man wasn’t offered the post.
Diab, a university professor supported by the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement, was named prime minister after a day of consultations with lawmakers.
Despite gaining a majority of votes, Diab failed to get the backing of the country’s major Sunni leaders, including Hariri.
