Degs – Colour My Soul (Kikuyu Soul Version)

Buy or stream ‘Versions From Ndegwa’ here: https://www.Degs.lnk.to/VersionsFromNdegwayc

Degs’ latest release on Hospital Records sees a series of brand new interpretations of tracks from his debut album ‘Letters From Ndegwa’. Featuring six fresh remixes, adaptations and stripped back editions, ‘Versions From Ndegwa’ breathes a new lease of life into the original classics including renditions from Bladerunner, AC13, Winslow, T.R.A.C & Karina Ramage and Degs’ collaborative neo-soul project with his brother – Kikuyu Soul.

Bladerunner offers his weighty interpretation of ‘Sleepless’ (feat. Pola & Bryson) to get things underway. No stranger to laying down a killer remix, ethereal arpeggios float above the original three-note melody which paves the way for a sinister bassline and rolling drums. Young gun AC13 steps up next with his take on ‘The Roots’ originally produced by jungle long-timer Missing. Rumbling reeses and the soothing harmonies of Degs’ vocals set the track up before splashy amens and a classic liquid-style wobble bass take the lead.

Slowing things right down, it’s a family affair on the Kikuyu Soul version of ‘Levitate Your Mind’ as Degs and his brother MURIUKI team up to deliver a downtempo edition of the drum & bass original produced by Unglued, a real moment from the album already surpassing 1 million streams worldwide. Silky smooth keys, solemn strings and a hip-hop style beat lay the foundations for Degs to continue to spread his message of love and positivity.

‘Colour My Soul’ also gets the Kikuyu Soul treatment, as well as an official remix from US-based rising star Winslow. For those who have got their ear to the ground, it’s no secret that Winslow has been making serious moves. His version of ‘Colour My Soul (feat. Logistics)’ infuses airy atmospherics which complement the uplifting vocal melodies of Degs, with the UK meeting the USA on this stunner of a remix.

Following on from his Head Trip Sprayout project back in May, that encouraged MCs and vocalists from the drum & bass community and beyond to record themselves performing over Degs’ ‘Head Trip’ (feat. Phil:osophy), two entries came to fruition on an official release on Hospital Records. Legendary American MC T.R.A.C’s verse and the vocals of Karina Ramage see their sprayouts combined on this special version of the track!

Since signing with Hospital Records back in 2018, Degs’ meteoric rise up the ranks has seen him make serious waves. From curating guest mixes for the likes of Charlie Tee and Andi Durrant on Kiss Fresh to launching his very own Degscast series, it’s been nothing but success for Degs since previous hits such as ‘Poveglia’ and his ‘Mixtape Sprayout’, quickly establishing him as one of the most versatile singer/songwriter, MC, and vocalist in drum & bass.

Unglued – Pigeon Funk

Buy or stream ‘Total XTC’ here: http://www.Unglued.lnk.to/totalxtcyc

Having released his highly anticipated ‘Zen’ EP earlier in 2020 on Hospital Records, Unglued continues his explosive ascension with a jaw-breaking four-track follow up: ‘Total XTC’. With roots cemented in jungle, breaks and hardcore, Unglued injects his signature bassline badness into each tearout track, topped with euphoric classic house samples in the title track ‘Total XTC’, to hair-raising vocals from Truthos Mufasa in ‘War Dance’ featuring Whiney.

Total XTC fires us through a prism of late 80s nostalgia with pitched-up soulful vocal samples from Charvoni’s feel-good classic house groover ‘Always There’. Dreamy pads and playful vintage notes set the scene. Soothingly sustained vocals swim over raw, metallic, jungle-infused drums that introduce the sub-destroying drop. A certified rave anthem that will have all the heads entranced.

‘War Dance’ raises adrenaline as Manchester-based Truthos Mufasa lays down slick and weighty bars that ricochet off skippy old skool-style drums right in the eye of the storm. Together, Unglued and Whiney conjure up bass-rumbling chaos as we’re pushed ‘right off the tracks’ with double-barrelled artillery in the heat of battle.

Charging in with twisted swagger, ‘Got 2 Have’ is a squelchy bass-ridden stepper that screams Unglued all over. While ‘Pigeon Funk’ swoops in and stares you down with electrically-charged squarks and funk-fuelled flare.

Introduced to jungle at an early age by his influential uncle Stoppy, Unglued demonstrates his ability to simultaneously stick and unpick these roots in his powerfully dynamic ‘Total XTC’ EP by fusing the old-skool style with his unique, forward-thinking flair.

Unglued’s rise since his anthemic ‘If We Ever’ remix, has brought in over a hundred intercontinental shows since 2019, and regular support from some of the biggest players in the game, including Andy C, Noisia and Randall. Unglued is no stranger to spins on national airwaves, with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac awarding him Hottest Record In The World for ‘Born In 94’, as well as regular support from Rene LaVice and Charlie Tee on Kiss Fresh. Everyone’s got their eyes stuck to Unglued!

Grafix – Distressed (Official Video)

Buy or stream ‘Distressed’ here: https://www.grafix.lnk.to/Distressedyc

Grafix strikes yet again with a rave tinted drum & bass stepper that delivers explosive energy and fiery frequencies through scattering synths and a throbbing bassline. ‘Distressed’ is the latest single from the dancefloor icon and is another step-up for Grafix’s signature solo sound. This follows on from the successes of his recent singles ‘Zephyr (feat. Ruth Royall)’, ‘Stutter’, and ‘Acid Generation’ which reached number 1 in the Beatport Drum & Bass chart.

The latest smasher from Grafix sees him heading back into the darker territories of drum & bass. Frantic melodics and skippy breaks see the execution of some of the most unique work from Grafix to date, whilst electrifying bass stabs and sharp vocal chops offer a taste of the Bristol-based producer’s sonic imprint.

The past year has been pivotal in Grafix’s solo journey, as the development and exploration of his style has seen appreciation from dance music connoisseurs including Andy C, Metrik, A.M.C and High Contrast. With his inspirations drawing from techno to indie rock, Grafix’s remarkable production skill and originality has seen him garner radio support from airwave tastemakers in 2020 such as Rene LaVice, Danny Howard, Charlie Tee, and Mollie Collins, and even a collaboration with fellow label extraordinaire Metrik on ‘Parallel’.

Incorporating new levels of power to the mix, Texas based dancefloor D+B icon Flite has worked up a supreme ripper of a remix. With releases on UKF, Pilot, Viper, and Liquicity, Flite is no stranger to cooking up untestable bangers, evidenced by his new-wave liquid anthems such as ‘Joy’ and ‘Decisions’.

Gliding basslines ripple beneath Metrik’s enrapturing vocals, accompanied by weighty drums and uplifting arpeggios. Distorted plucks champion the instantly recognisable melody, whilst distinctive pad swells throughout the breakdown breathe a new lease of life into the track.

‘Ex Machina’ is an exhilarating and flawlessly executed evolution of Metrik’s unique sonic identity, filled with high-octane frequencies and first-class dancefloor tear-ups such as his previous singles ‘We Are The Energy’, ‘Parallel ft Grafix’ and ‘Automata’. Continuing to elevate his sound to new heights, Metrik’s very own vocals and songwriting take centre stage throughout his latest studio album, and have already seen support from leading dance music tastemakers such as Annie Mac, MistaJam, Rene La Vice, Charlie Tee, and Shadow Child to name a few.

Grafix – Zephyr (feat. Ruth Royall) Official Video

Buy or stream Zephyr (feat. Ruth Royall) here: grafix.lnk.to/zephyryc

Grafix turns inside out with his latest single ‘Zephyr’, a switch up from his previous release; the acid meets drum & bass hybrid ‘Stutter’. Its punchy synth lead and addictive vocals from Ruth Royall combine to create the summer anthem you didn’t know you’d been waiting for.

‘Zephyr’ continues to show Grafix’s versatility with this 180 spin from his previous releases ‘Acid Generation’, ‘Radiance’ and ‘Break The Cycle’. His excellently executed main room sound shines through, combining dancefloor beats and singalong melodies where Grafix fans, new and old, will relish in the power-chords and big leads.

Since going solo, Grafix has explored his darker, more robust sound. His latest lethal dancefloor weapon ‘Stutter’ was another wild ride of grizzly sonics and stabs – the warped cousin of his previous Beatport D&B number 1, ‘Acid Generation’. Grafix’s recent releases have reflected wider influences and dive deep into his love for techno and acid-house, garnering support from the likes of Andy C, Metrik, Friction, A.M.C, Sub Focus and more. He has been celebrated on major radio airwaves from the likes of tastemakers Danny Howard, Rene LaVice and Charlie Tee, to name a few, as he continues to develop his unique identity as a solo artist.
