Japan roboticists predict rise of the machines | AFP

Set in 2019, cult 80s movie “Blade Runner” envisaged a neon-stained landscape of bionic “replicants” genetically engineered to look just like humans. So far that has failed to materialise, but at a secretive research institute in western Japan, wild-haired roboticist Hiroshi Ishiguro is fine-tuning technology that could blur the line between man and machine.

Look up to the skies and see…ads: ‘Blade Runner’ scenery might become reality with Russian startup

In a move straight out of a dystopian blockbuster, a Russian startup wants to put giant luminous billboards into orbit to bombard a ‘potential audience of 7 billion people’ with advertising from space.

StartRocket aims to use a formation of tiny cube satellites to create programmable displays in the night sky in a low-Earth orbit of 400-500 kilometers.

Each satellite would have a single collapsible sail to reflect the light of the sun, forming a single pixel in the giant nocturnal display measuring 50 square kilometers across.

Tony Colman aka London Elektricity is pushing forward once again. Having changed the face of drum & bass forever with one of the most innovative live acts in dance music, he’s gone hot and heavy to the mixing desk and is primed to unleash a new album on the world. To tee things up Hospital presents to you this awesome 12″ – the first exclusive new music from the LE brain.

It’s London Elektricity so expect the unexpected — a sci-fi punk soundclash at 173 bpm on the A side. “Attack Ships” manages to intertwine Blade Runner references alongside oversize orchestra hits, underpinned by an ear worm of a punk bass guitar riff.
