The death of George Floyd at the hands of US police on 25 May in Minneapolis has brought back painful memories for many. Breonna Taylor, Rodney King, Timothy Thomas, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray: these are just a few of the many African Americans that have been subject to violence or killed by police since the early 90s in the United States. Since then demonstrations calling for justice have rocked the country, finally crystallising into a massive national movement that is calling for an end to injustice and ‘systemic racism’ against African Americans.
