Ed:it – Heart Of Fire

Buy: http://btprt.dj/1IANjFC

Enter Subtitles Music. Run by Teebee, one half of Calyx and Teebee, it’s a label that’s managed to survive the transition from old world to new in fine form. They’ve been been around since the year 2000, playing host to everyone from Break to Fanu to Ulterior Motive and pretty much anyone in between. Their sound has edged towards the heavier end of the spectrum, nicely interspersed with some deeper, more experimental vibes. Heart of Fire is deeper – it’s quite an ornamental tune, laden with gorgeous synths and pads, with a gentle vocal enticing you onwards. The bassline’s subtle sitting, nicely below the big subby drums.

In comes Ed:it. Flake’s the more techy of the two tunes on the single. The percussions that eponymous thick, deep and rounded perc that’s really in vogue at the moment, and its sparring partner is a gently undulating bassline with the whole thing accentuated by slightly ethereal, delicate pad work. You’d be forgiven for think that this was just a deep roller, but it actually has quite a lot of development in its 4 minutes 17 run time. It snaps to attention halfway through the verse, gaining a wicked cheeky edge, set off by some subtle drum edits. It’s bold, but subtle. Perfect A side material.
